Sewer Division Maintenance Supervisor

The purpose of this position is to assist in overseeing the work of assigned crew. Employees in this classification perform maintenance and repair of the town's Sanitary Sewer Conveyance System, prepare assigned crew's work schedules; ensures completion of work; prepares reports as required, etc. Additionally, employees in this classification must carry a town cell phone at all times and be available on a 24/7 basis, as directed.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assists in overseeing sanitary sewer conveyance system maintenance crew daily operations; manages O&M core activities; flushing and CCTV inspections.
• Assist with overseeing O&M on lift and metering stations to include responding to alarms and monitoring remotely as needed.
• Conducts safety checks and takes proper action to correct deficiencies.
• Assist with tracking division workflows through town's Cityworks Customer Relationship Management System (CRM).
• Conducts inventory for the division's supplies and equipment; research information and prepares purchase requisitions for same. Assists with division's budget.
• Assists with division's equipment and vehicle maintenance and repair.
• Assists with weather-related or other town emergencies; may engage in traffic control for roadway repair. Assists with setup and breakdown of town special events.
• Responsible for leading and supervising staff by addressing concerns, coaching, and administering discipline as needed. Manages performance evaluations and documentation, delegates work and approves timecards. Supports recruitment, onboarding, and training. Utilizes effective communication to keep staff informed of policies and organizational updates. Promotes staff and team development and ensures required training is completed. Promotes and models values-based behavior while executing town priorities.

Requirements:

• High school diploma or GED required; supplemented by vocational/technical training in sanitary sewer conveyance systems operation and maintenance or by three or more years' experience and/or training that includes supervision.
• Previous supervisory experience preferred.
• Experience using computers and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Possession of flagging certification issued by the Virginia Department of Transportation or ability to attain one within six months of employment.
• Possession of NASSCO PACP certification or ability to attain one within six months of employment.
• Must be able to complete competent person training for trench safety and confined space entry within six months of employment.
• Valid commercial driver's license (Class B) with acceptable record; must be able to attain a tanker endorsement within six months of employment.
• Duties involve the ability to exert heavy, physical effort, and involves some lifting, carrying, pushing, climbing, crouching, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crawling up to approximately 100 pounds. Duties may also require coordinated movements to operate different types of equipment and vehicles. Duties may also require adequate visual perception, as well as adequate oral communications abilities. Duties may also risk exposure to adverse, environmental conditions such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, animal pests, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, loud machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, toxic agents, violence, disease and pathogenic substances.
