GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, the Assistant Maintenance Supervisor performs a variety of routine and complex technical and professional duties related to the maintenance of Burnet County facilities and property. This position supports the supervision of maintenance and janitorial operations, assists with repairs and facility inspections, and helps ensure County facilities are maintained in a safe, functional, and orderly condition. The position requires strong organizational skills, sound judgment, effective conflict-management skills, and a service-oriented approach.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Oversee maintenance and janitorial personnel assigned to Burnet County facilities and grounds.

• Assist with maintaining County equipment and facilities in safe, reliable working condition through scheduled work orders, preventive maintenance, and routine repairs.
• Advise the Maintenance Supervisor of issues related to individual and company-awarded contracts.
• Supervise other positions as directed by the Maintenance Supervisor.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor.
• Facilitate safety training for the Maintenance Department.
• Assist with on-site facility inspections and support enforcement of applicable codes and ordinances.
• Assist with repairs, maintenance, and installations that support structural integrity, stability, sanitation, adequate lighting, plumbing, HVAC systems, and protection of life and property from fire, flood, and other hazards.
• Promptly communicate maintenance issues to the Maintenance Supervisor, regardless of priority level.
• Respond to sensitive facility issues using proper, safe maintenance practices while maintaining a quality-focused approach.
• Monitor the installation and maintenance of equipment for County facilities, including clearing, grading, drainage, foundation work, and other assigned duties.
• Maintain regular and timely attendance and demonstrate effective prioritization of assigned work.
• Attend required safety training and consistently apply safe work practices in all job duties.
• Remain accessible for after-hours issues and be able to respond within 30 minutes when scheduled for on-call status.
• Be available to work overtime when assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Supervise and assist inmates from Intermediate Sanction Facilities and the Burnet County Jail with tasks assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor.
• Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly work reports as requested by the Maintenance Supervisor.
• Use the maintenance program designated by the Maintenance Supervisor as required.
• Attend meetings, including Commissioners Court, as required or assigned. 

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Must maintain current occupational licenses, emergency response certifications, and/or other licenses or certifications that pertain to the essential functions of this position. A high school diploma or GED is required. Must obtain a Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (TCOLE) jailer license, National Incident Management System (NIMS) training, and/or any occupational license or certification that pertains to the essential functions of this position.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

• Four years of maintenance or construction supervisory experience is preferred.
• Mechanical, carpentry, plumbing, and electrical experience is preferred.
• Must have at least one year of experience reading and understanding blueprints, schematics, and/or architectural drawings.
• Must be able to use hand and power tools, including janitorial equipment, lawn equipment, and metering devices.
• Must be proficient in the use of a personal computer, including Microsoft Word.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

Requires frequent travel throughout Burnet County. The position frequently requires sitting, standing, squatting, kneeling, walking long distances, talking, and hearing. Frequent use of the hands and fingers is required to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls and to reach with hands and arms. Must have the ability to see, adjust focus, read, and write documentation as instructed. The position may occasionally require lifting and/or moving (pushing/pulling/dragging) up to 108 pounds with reasonable accommodations.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

The Assistant Maintenance Supervisor may be required to work under hazardous conditions, including but not limited to heights, energy sources, high noise levels, chemicals, moving parts, and weather conditions.
