About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Intermediate Care Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Days Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 1 year License: Active state license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Experience with trach care, BiPap, stroke, IV titration Description: Unit has 23 beds. Nurse to patient ratios are 1:3-4. Common diagnoses include stroke, cardiac issues, sepsis, and surgical patients. RNs are required to titrate drips. Common titratable and/or set rate drips include Heparin, nitroglycerin, Cardizem, levo, Cardene, and Precedex. A charge nurse is available on each shift and ideally does not take patients unless necessary. CNA support is provided, usually with 8-23 patients assigned to each aide. Respiratory therapy equipment such as CPAP, BiPap, and high flow is utilized on the unit. RNs are expected to troubleshoot respiratory equipment. Monitor techs observe rhythms and rates; however, nurses interpret their own strips. Self-scheduling and block scheduling are not permitted. 12-hour shifts are from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM and 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM. Travelers will participate in a weekend rotation based on unit needs. Holiday requirements include working every other holiday. Floating to other units is expected except for emergency and obstetrics departments. Any color professional scrubs are acceptable; scrubs are not provided. Unit-specific orientation lasts 1-2 shifts. Charting system used is EPIC. BSN is not required. Trauma level is 1. Care setting is acute. Division is nursing.
