Excavator / Skid Steer Operator – Underground Utilities

Location: Brownsville, TX

Job Type: Full-Time

Pay: $18.00 - $28.00 per hour (Based on Experience)

Job Summary

MEMCO is seeking motivated and experienced Excavator and Skid Steer Operators to support underground utility construction projects in the Brownsville area. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience operating heavy equipment on sewer, storm drain, waterline, and underground utility projects .

Operators must be experienced in digging trenches to grade while working safely around pipe crews, bedding material, trench boxes, shoring systems, existing utilities, and other trades. Responsibilities include excavation, trench preparation, loading and spreading bedding material, backfilling, grading, and supporting compaction operations.

Pipe installation will be performed by pipe crews; however, operators must understand how to excavate safely and accurately to support underground utility installation. This is an excellent opportunity to work on high-profile civil construction projects while contributing to the development of essential infrastructure.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Operate excavators and skid steers for sewer and storm drain trench excavation.
• Excavate trenches to the required depth, width, and grade.
• Work from grade stakes, laser levels, elevations, and project plans.
• Load, place, and spread bedding material as directed.
• Assist with trench backfill, grading, and site cleanup.
• Work safely around trench boxes, shoring systems, underground utilities, equipment, and other construction trades.
• Support compaction operations and maintain safe trench conditions.
• Perform daily equipment inspections and report mechanical issues to the supervisor.
• Follow all OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and project requirements.
• Maintain productivity while ensuring quality workmanship and jobsite safety.

Qualifications

• Experience operating excavators and/or skid steers is required.
• Previous experience on underground utility projects, including:
• Sewer systems
• Storm drain systems
• Waterline installation
• Pipeline construction
• Knowledge of trenching, bedding, backfilling, grading, slopes, elevations, and grade requirements.
• Experience working around trench boxes, shoring systems, and active utility crews.
• Ability to safely work around underground utilities and other heavy equipment.
• Must be able to meet federal project site access requirements ( clean background ).
• OSHA 10 Certification is required.
• Must be dependable, safety-minded, and able to follow directions.
