Opto-Mechanical Engineering Manager

Salary: $126,070 - 205,997 per year Requirements:

• We require a BS or MS in Mechanical, Opto-Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, Optics, Physics, or a closely related engineering discipline.
• We expect 10+ years of industry experience.
• We require more than 2 years of experience in people or team management.
• We need strong command of mechanical engineering fundamentals, including statics, dynamics, thermal analysis, and precision kinematics, along with opto-mechanics.
• We value experience with mechanical CAD tools, with SolidWorks preferred.
• We require experience using finite element analysis software such as SW Simulation, Ansys Workbench, or NASTRAN.
• We look for experience aligning optical components, integrating optical instruments, evaluating performance, and supporting environmental testing.
• We need a proven track record of developing and managing engineers.
• We expect demonstrated success working in and leading a technical team.
• We require project management experience, including technical and program leadership.
• We value cradle-to-grave systems engineering experience, from requirements definition through analysis, integration, and test.
• We require excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• We expect comfort presenting to customers, senior leadership, and large audiences.
• We look for experience developing business proposals and/or supporting sales efforts to win and expand new business.
• We require that you be a US Person or Legal Permanent Resident.
• Preferred: MATLAB and/or Python experience.
• Preferred: Zemax experience.
• Preferred: machine shop experience.

• We lead a team of 3 to 6 opto-mechanical engineers.
• We build collaboration and high technical performance across the team with a people-first leadership style.
• We mentor, motivate, and develop our opto-mechanical engineering staff.
• We evaluate performance, coach constructively, and help set individual goals.
• We align career development with team objectives and our broader business strategy.
• We serve as technical lead on opto-mechanical design development and optical instrument AI&T projects for spaceborne, airborne, and ground-based optical payloads.
• We plan, delegate, and oversee project work in coordination with the program manager.
• We handle the most technically challenging aspects of projects in collaboration with experts in optical, electrical, and software engineering.
• We provide technical mentorship to junior engineers.
• We contribute to technical growth in areas of interest and expertise.
• We support sales activities by writing proposals, presenting our engineering capabilities, and helping create meeting, conference, and marketing content.
• We help strengthen business relationships with clients.
• We stay current on the latest advances in opto-mechanical engineering and related technologies.
• We identify opportunities to innovate and improve optical system development.
