Hours: Per Diem, 6:30am - 3:00pm, Monday - Friday days, No holidays or weekends Hourly Rate: $18.50 - $24.41 Job Summary: Surgical Day Care (SDC) is a very fast‑paced environment. Unit secretary in SDC will see around 50 patients per day. Responsibilities include greeting patients, checking them in, preparing charts ahead of time, ensuring documentation is available. Ideal candidate proficient in Meditech, Athena, Microsoft Word and Excel; must multitask and prioritize in a busy environment. Responsibilities Provides clerical support to clinical staff (e.g., maintains unit files, organizes patient care record, prepares admission and pre‑op charts). Under direction of nurse, makes all appropriate arrangements for outside services, transfers, and ambulance services in a timely manner. Prioritizes tasks adjusting to changing workload as necessary. Maintains clean and safe work environment (identifies and removes safety hazards). Transcribes physicians’ orders accurately and enters into Meditech OE module where utilized. Provides clerical support for Manager and Team Leader to ensure all needed information is communicated to other parties and reports and projects are completed accurately and on time. Participates in learning for colleagues and self (e.g., assists with orientation of new staff in‑services, educational programs). Inputs all pertinent patient data for surgical scheduling such as patient records, labs, reports consent forms in collaboration with physician office. Prints, posts and updates schedules daily. Supports physicians and nursing staff in patient care coordination. Establishes and maintains good working relationship with patients, physicians, physician’s office staff, visitors and other members of the health care team through responsiveness, accuracy of information and professionalism. Coordinates flow of patients entering and leaving the department to ensure smooth functioning of the department. Assumes day‑to‑day responsibility for booked surgical procedures in order to maintain a surgical schedule. Ensures surgical and PAT bookings reflect pertinent patient information such as patient information, type of surgery, assistants and special needs. Works collaboratively with the Team Leader / Charge Nurse to keep them informed of changes in the schedule and other pertinent information. Updates and logs surgical cases daily. Enters patient charges daily. Creates copies and distributes reports and statistics as needed for daily and monthly projects and activities. Records, types and distributes staff meeting minutes monthly.
