The Licensed Practical Nurse E9 provides a full range of nursing care through the application of policies, procedures, standards and protocols, under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse. Provides total patient care for an assigned group of patients. Assures that their hygiene needs are met, assists with activities of daily living, assists with ambulation as needed. Assesses patients within the LPN scope of practice, training and competency. Administers medications and treatments. Keeps the RN informed of patient condition changes and response to treatment. Works with maximum security prisoners 100% of on-duty time. This role is subject to random drug and alcohol screening.
Required Education and Experience
Possession of a certificate from a practical nursing education program accepted for licensure by the Michigan Board of Nursing. No specific type or amount is required.

New hires to the MDOC along with previous MDOC employees that are returning after being away from the department for more than two years will complete Non-Custody New Employee Training (NCNET) either 40 hours or 80 hours of initial in-person training based on their level of offender contact and job classification. All new employees will complete additional online training to successfully complete their non-custody new employee training.

Vacation and Sick Leave: Eligible full-time employees receive between 15 and 35 personal days and 13 sick days per year that may be rolled over to the following year if not used. Paid Parental Leave: Eligible employees can take 12 weeks of paid leave immediately after a birth or adoption to allow needed time together at home with a new child. Paid Holidays: Eligible employees receive 13 or 14 paid holidays each year including New Year's Eve and Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents' Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, the Fourth of July, Labor Day, Election Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving Friday, Christmas Eve and Day. Bonus Programs: Eligible employees with five years of service also receive annual longevity bonuses that grow as seniority increases. Military Pay Differential: Employees in the guard or reserves may also qualify for supplemental pay benefits if military pay during qualifying duty is less than normal state pay.
