Saginaw County Community Mental Health Authority (SCCMHA) is seeking a dedicated Outpatient Psychiatrist to join our team in providing high-quality, whole-person psychiatric care to consumers and their families. This role delivers outpatient psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and clinical oversight. The ideal candidate actively supports culturally competent, recovery-based practices, person-centered planning, and trauma-informed care. As a key psychiatric subject matter expert, you will collaborate with multidisciplinary treatment teams, provide medical direction and support to staff, and participate in clinical program planning to promote positive behavioral changes and overall community wellness.

• Pay is negotiable and commensurate with experience
• $10,000 Recruitment bonus! $2,000 at start, $3,000 at 3 months, $5,000 after successful completion of probationary period.

Responsibilities

• Provide psychiatric oversight by reviewing and approving agency diagnostic evaluations, person-centered plans, treatment plans, and quarterly reviews.
• Complete comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and medication reviews for assigned consumers in a timely manner.
• Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications where appropriate, including providing on-call coverage for fellow psychiatrists or the Medical Director.
• Order, interpret, and monitor laboratory tests and associated diagnostic procedures related to psychiatric care.
• Treat complex mental health issues involving consumers and their families using evidence-based interventions.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, professional staff, and outside programs to coordinate whole-person care and optimize treatment outcomes.
• Interpret clinical findings for staff, family members, educators, and consented support networks.
• Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation, time tracking, and communication records within the SCCMHA electronic medical record system.
• Participate in clinical program planning, continuous quality improvement functions, and peer chart reviews.
• Serve as an agency subject matter expert in psychiatric care and participate in the academic training of affiliated university students as requested.
• Attend mandatory in-service trainings, professional development workshops, and community events aligned with public mental health goals.

Qualifications

• Doctorate degree in Medicine (MD) or Osteopathy (DO) with completion of an accredited psychiatric residency program.
• Board Certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry.
• Active State of Michigan Physician License, Controlled Substance License, and DEA Registration Certificate.
• Strong knowledge of psychiatric diagnosis, psychopharmacology, and outpatient treatment models.
• Proficiency in using electronic medical record (EMR) software and standard computer systems.
• Proven ability to build therapeutic rapport with consumers and establish positive working relationships with multidisciplinary staff.
• Commitment to trauma-informed care, person-centered planning, and recovery-oriented principles.
• Excellent oral and written communication, problem-solving, and crisis mediation abilities.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

• Delivers services in clinic settings, office environments, and various community locations.
• Ability to converse effectively in person and on the telephone.
• Visual acuity to read documents, review clinical files, and operate electronic health record systems.
• Ability to walk, stand, or sit for extended periods during clinical evaluations.
• Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull files, supplies, and medical records carts weighing up to 20 pounds.

In 2021, it was named a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. As a CCBHC, SCCMHA is a “one stop wellness center” and offers a full range of services that create access to care, stabilizes individuals in crisis and provides the necessary treatment for those with mental illnesses, intellectual/developmental disorders, children/youth with emotional disorders and substance use disorders regardless of their insurance coverage.

SCCMHA is a behavioral health provider but also a specialty network. The network is comprised of organizations that provide professional services, but also housing and other support services and interventions in both office and sitebased locations as well as in the homes of consumers and their families.
