Overnight Personal Caregiver Assistant (PCA) in Goldsboro

Position Overview

SYNERGY HomeCare is looking for compassionate, dependable Personal Care Assistants (PCAs) to provide non-medical, hands-on care to individuals who need support with activities of daily living (ADLs). This position focuses on helping clients remain safe, comfortable, and as independent as possible while continuing to live in their own homes. Note: This position is for overnight care, 10PM-6AM.

In addition to personal care, our caregivers offer companionship, encouragement, and help with everyday household needs. Our goal is to make a meaningful difference in each client's life through respectful, individualized care.

Key Responsibilities

(Note: Responsibilities and Care will be tailored to overnight care.)
Personal Care and Daily Living Support

• Assist clients with bathing, showering, sponge baths, and personal hygiene.

• Provide help with dressing, grooming, oral hygiene, and hair care, excluding haircuts and chemical treatments.

• Assist with shaving using an electric razor.

• Support toileting needs, continence care, and changing incontinence briefs.

• Help clients use bedpans, urinals, and bedside commodes.

• Provide mobility support, including transfers, walking, and repositioning for comfort and skin integrity.

• Assist with range-of-motion exercises as directed.

• Provide feeding assistance when appropriate.

Meal Preparation and Nutrition

• Plan and prepare meals according to client needs.

• Assist with eating and maintaining adequate hydration.

• Monitor food and fluid intake when requested.

• Set up meals and clean up afterward.

Companionship and Social Engagement

• Build positive relationships through conversation and meaningful companionship.

• Offer emotional support, reassurance, and encouragement.

• Participate in activities such as reading, games, hobbies, and other recreational interests.

• Accompany clients on walks and outings.

• Provide transportation to appointments, stores, church, and community activities when authorized.

Light Housekeeping and Household Support

• Complete laundry and change bed linens.

• Wash dishes and maintain kitchen cleanliness.

• Perform light housekeeping duties, including vacuuming, dusting, sweeping, and mopping.

• Keep frequently used living spaces neat and organized.

• Assist with grocery shopping and routine errands.

• Pick up prescriptions, excluding controlled substances unless specifically authorized.

Client Safety and Wellness

• Provide medication reminders only; medication administration is not permitted.

• Observe and report changes in a client's physical, emotional, cognitive, or environmental condition.

• Help maintain a safe home environment and minimize potential fall hazards.

• Encourage clients to maintain their independence while providing appropriate assistance and supervision.

Documentation and Professional Standards

• Maintain accurate records of services provided during each visit.

• Communicate concerns, incidents, and changes in client condition to the office promptly.

• Follow all SYNERGY HomeCare policies, HIPAA requirements, infection prevention procedures, and applicable safety standards.

Scope of Personal Care Services

This is a non-medical caregiving position. Personal Care Assistants are not responsible for skilled nursing care, medical procedures, or tasks requiring a licensed healthcare professional.

Unless expressly permitted by applicable state regulations and agency policy, PCAs must not perform the following:

• Administer medications or injections.

• Provide wound care or change medical dressings.

• Insert Foley catheters or perform sterile catheter care.

• Provide IV therapy.

• Perform tracheostomy care.

• Administer tube feedings.

• Adjust oxygen settings.

• Conduct skilled clinical assessments.

• Accept or take physician orders.

• Perform other duties that require a licensed nurse or healthcare professional.

Requirements

• Reliable transportation is required.

• A compassionate, respectful, and dependable approach to client care.

• The ability to assist clients with personal care, daily routines, and household tasks within the PCA scope of practice.

• Willingness to follow agency policies, safety procedures, and client care instructions.
