Position Title Senior Licensed Practical Nurse Overview Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care (UBHC), established in 1971, offers a full continuum of evidence-based behavioral health and addiction services for children, adolescents, adults, and seniors throughout New Jersey. With 1,060 experienced behavioral health professionals and support staff, UBHC is one of the largest providers of behavioral health care in the country, operating 15 sites in New Jersey. Services include inpatient, outpatient, partial hospitalization, screening, crisis stabilization, family/caregiver support, community outreach, case management, supportive housing, supported employment, prevention and consultation, employee assistance programs, and a licensed therapeutic school from preschool through high school. Specialty services include a suicide prevention helpline and peer help lines for police, veterans, active military, teachers, mothers of special needs children, and child protective service workers. In FY2016, UBHC treated 16,199 consumers, had 24,502 admissions, and touched 19,441 individual callers through peer support. UBHC also provides mental health training to New Jersey departments, delivering 16,000 trainings each year. Position Details Department: UBHC – Acute Psychological Services Recruitment Title: Senior Licensed Practical Nurse Category: Staff & Executive – Healthcare – Nursing Status: Full Time, Evening shift, Standard Hours: 40, On-site work arrangement, Union: Teamsters 97, Terms of Appointment: Staff – 12 month Responsibilities Takes vital signs including temperature, pulse, respirations, and blood pressure on all patients and documents immediately in the EMR. Administers medications and parenteral therapy in accordance with established UBHC guidelines. Performs venipuncture as required. Collects and processes laboratory specimens. Follows National Patient Safety Goals in proper identification of patient before collecting specimens. Qualifications Education & Experience Three (3) years of relevant experience as an LPN is required. Certifications & Licenses Valid and current registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of New Jersey. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Demonstrated competency in venipuncture techniques. Strong clinical nursing specialty, excellent communication skills, PC literate with proficiency in word processing, and leadership abilities. Physical Demands & Work Environment Standing 2/3 of the time, walking 2/3 of the time, sitting 1/3 of the time; use of hands to finger, handle or feel 2/3 of the time; reach with hands and arms 1/3 of the time; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl 1/3 of the time; talk or hear over 2/3 of the time. Moderate noise environment in office with computers and printers; exposure to hospital blood borne and airborne pathogens per control plans; unpredictable patient crises and occasional assaultive behaviors; possible exposure to varying temperatures.
