Gateway Regional Medical Center is looking for an HIM Specialist to join our Health Information Management team. You'll manage and safeguard patient medical records - from scanning and indexing to data entry and analysis - ensuring accuracy, integrity, and strict confidentiality at every step. This is detail-driven work that plays a vital, behind-the-scenes role in patient care.
This is a great fit for someone who's organized, tech-comfortable, and takes data privacy seriously - whether you're early in your HIM career or experienced in medical records management.
What You'll Do
- Collect, organize, and maintain physical and electronic medical records
- Accurately enter and manage data within the MEDHOST EHR system
- Handle record preparation, scanning, indexing, abstracting, and retrieval
- Analyze paper and electronic records for accuracy and completeness
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA Privacy and Security Rules and all relevant regulations
- Maintain strict confidentiality of protected health information (PHI)
What You Bring
- High school diploma required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in HIM/HIT preferred
- RHIT or RHIA certification preferred
- Technical proficiency, including comfort with Windows environments and Microsoft Office Suite
- One to two years of clerical experience, ideally in a Health Information Department or medical office
- Excellent customer service skills
- Working knowledge of medical terminology
- Experience with an EHR system preferred
- Ability to work effectively with staff and medical staff across the organization
