Warehouse Supervisor

The Warehouse Supervisor oversees warehouse operations and leads hourly employees to achieve safety, quality, productivity, responsiveness, and other key business objectives. This role focuses on day-to-day supervision, process improvement, workforce engagement, and adherence to operational standards and contractual requirements within a high-volume warehousing environment.

Responsibilities:

• Supervise and support hourly warehouse employees to ensure departmental goals for safety, quality, productivity, and responsiveness are consistently met.
• Counsel and assist employees with work-related needs and concerns in a timely and professional manner.
• Recognize and commend positive performance behaviors while addressing and correcting negative behaviors to maintain high performance standards.
• Use the Quality Network problem-solving process to identify operational opportunities, develop solutions, and actively engage the workforce in continuous improvement.
• Apply Workplace Organization (WPO) principles to improve warehouse layouts, material flow, and overall operational efficiency.
• Perform daily updates in the Timekeeping System (TKS) to ensure accurate payroll data and time records for all supervised employees.
• Use the A-3 reporting format to document problem-solving activities and strictly follow local A-3 guidelines and standards.
• Conduct daily meetings to communicate business performance, operational priorities, and to encourage two-way dialogue with employees.
• Perform and document weekly safety observation tours of the warehouse departments to identify risks and reinforce safe work practices.
• Plan daily workloads in advance, including staffing, task assignments, and resource allocation to meet operational demands.
• Collaborate with colleagues and other supervisors to optimize overall shift performance and ensure smooth handoffs between shifts.
• Monitor and observe national and local contractual requirements, ensuring all work practices comply with applicable agreements.
• Enforce shop rules consistently and fairly to maintain order, safety, and productivity in the warehouse.
• Conduct daily Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) audit checks to verify compliance and identify areas for improvement.
• Advance personal leadership and technical skills through the Individual Development Plan (IDP) process and ongoing learning.
• Keep supervisory staff and relevant committees informed of pending activities, operational issues, and improvement initiatives.
• Provide direct supervision and management of employees in a union environment, ensuring effective communication and respectful labor relations.
• Lead process improvement initiatives or special projects related to inventory management, logistics, supply chain, and warehouse operations.
• Oversee warehousing activities related to aftermarket parts distribution, ensuring accurate inventory handling and timely order fulfillment.

Essential Skills:

• Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes and procedures relevant to warehouse and distribution operations.
• Proficiency in basic math for timekeeping, inventory, and operational calculations.
• Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills for interacting with employees, peers, and leadership.
• Understanding of the basic technology used in the assigned area, including warehouse systems and related tools.
• Knowledge of scheduling practices and other management systems used to plan workloads and track performance.
• High level of analytical ability to address complex operational problems and develop practical solutions.
• Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with others, motivate employees, and elicit consistent work output.
• Knowledge of quality control procedures and standards applicable to warehousing and distribution.
• Experience in warehouse management, supervision, and direct oversight of employees in a union environment.
• Demonstrated leadership capabilities, including coaching, performance management, and team development.
• Experience leading process improvements or special projects in inventory, logistics, supply chain, or warehouse operations.
• Ability to enforce shop rules and contractual requirements while maintaining positive labor relations.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent education.
• 1–2 years of technical or business school training preferred.
• Training in a skilled trades area or equivalent technical training is an advantage.
• 10+ years of relevant experience in warehousing, manufacturing, logistics, or related operations.
• Familiarity with Workplace Organization (WPO), Quality Network problem-solving, and A-3 reporting formats.
• Experience using timekeeping and payroll systems such as Timekeeping System (TKS).
• Familiar in inventory management, logistics, supply chain, and warehouse operations.
• Experience working within unionized environments, preferably with large-scale labor organizations.

Work Environment:

The role is based in a busy warehouse facility focused on the storage and distribution of aftermarket parts. You will work in an operational environment that uses established management systems, scheduling tools, timekeeping technology (TKS), and structured problem-solving and reporting methods such as Quality Network, WPO, and A-3. The position follows a contract arrangement within the US and involves close collaboration with unionized hourly employees, adherence to national and local contractual requirements, and enforcement of shop rules and standard operating procedures. Work typically occurs in a shift-based setting where supervisors plan daily workloads, conduct team meetings, and perform regular safety and SOP audits to maintain a safe, organized, and efficient warehouse.

Job Type & Location:

This is a Contract position based out of Ypsilanti, MI.

Pay and Benefits:

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $34.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
