Pay scale: LP 01-01 Salary: $86,530.00 PA Job series: 0083 Appointment type: Permanent Work schedule: Full-Time Location: Washington, DC 20001 Relocation expenses reimbursed: No Telework eligible: No Responsibilities Enforce federal, District of Columbia, and U.S. Capitol Police (USCP) laws, regulations, and rules of conduct. Physically protect the U.S. Capitol complex, members of Congress, visitors, and staff from threats of crime and disruption. Take charge of accidents and crime scenes, restrict access, observe, stop, and question suspicious persons. Prepare incident reports and testify in court. Perform protective services, safeguard federally‑owned buildings and property, and protect government equipment. Upon successful completion of training and probation, be eligible for advanced training, promotion, and specialized assignments (e.g., Special Operations Division, Canine Section, Dignitary Protection Division, Intelligence Operations Division). Qualifications United States citizenship; age 21–39 (maximum entry age); male applicants must register for Selective Service. High school diploma or GED certificate required. Valid U.S. driver’s license with REAL ID; no revocation or suspension in the past year. Pass a comprehensive criminal history check of the past ten years. Pass a comprehensive credit check; must not be in default on federal student loans. Pass a full field background investigation, including FBI fingerprint check. Pass a physical readiness test (timed 300‑meter run, push‑ups, 1.5‑mile run). Pass psychological, medical, and polygraph examinations during the hiring process. Demonstrate firearm proficiency and willingness to carry a firearm while on duty. Must be able to travel for hiring assessments, training, and occasional assignments. Must be willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays; participate in a one‑year probationary period. Benefits Competitive starting salary of $86,530.00 PA.
