About CARLA
CARLA is a brand-new neighborhood bar Adams Morgan centered around great drinks, globally inspired shareable food (think skewers, bao, and approachable bar bites), great music, and genuine hospitality.
We are building our opening team and looking for dependable, high-energy Food Runners/Barbacks.
About the Role
In this hybrid role, you will work hand-in-hand with our bar and kitchen teams to keep the floor moving, welcoming, and satiated. You would have your part in every aspect of the guest experience - resupplying bartenders with what they need, dropping off croquettes or bison chorizo meatballs to guests, or weaving between groups to clear tables for new guests.
Key Responsibilities
- Barback Support: Keep wells stocked with ice, prep garnishes, rotate spirits, and manage continuous glassware turnover so bartenders never miss a beat.
- Food Running: Deliver dishes quickly from the kitchen to guests, presenting them by name.
- Floor Maintenance: Bus, manicure, and reset bar tops and tables according to service standards.
- Upkeep & Detail: Maintain high standards of sanitation, cleanliness, and storage organization from pre-shift setup through closing turnover.
What We're Looking For
- Experience: 1+ years in a high-volume, full-service restaurant or lively bar setting preferred, but we will teach the right candidate who brings curiosity, care, and good energy.
- Communication: Ability to read tickets accurately, coordinate with the cook and bartenders, and communicate warmly and clearly with guests and coworkers.
- Physical Stamina: Comfortable navigating stairs regularly throughout a 6–8 hour shift. Able to lift, carry, and maneuver up to 20 lbs (glassware racks, bus tubs, ice buckets).
- Dependable and excited to help build the culture of a brand-new spot.
