Position Title Fire Prevention Supervisor. Job Description: We are looking for a Fire Prevention Supervisor to support the Salt Lake City Fire Department. About the Position The Fire Prevention Supervisor is a non-sworn position which provides strategic leadership and oversight of fire inspection, investigation, prevention, and life safety programs, ensuring compliance with fire codes and enhancing community safety standards. Operates with significant autonomy under the general direction of the Fire Marshal (Battalion Chief assigned to Fire Prevention), exercising independent judgment in program oversight and fire code compliance strategies. Directly supervises Fire Prevention Specialists and other assigned personnel, providing leadership and strategic direction. Position Wage Position Wage: E30 - $74,038/yr. - $101,096/yr. Supervises and provides development opportunities for assigned personnel. Develops and implements community risk reduction strategies. Establishes program goals and performance metrics. Manages budget planning and resource allocation. Serves as technical authority on fire protection regulations. Reviews and approves construction plans for code compliance. Conducts complex fire code inspections of existing structures and construction sites. Recommends new code adoptions and policy updates. Manages permit issuance program and compliance strategies. Build partnerships with stakeholders and professional organizations. Serves as liaison with developers, contractors, and community groups. Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience: Associate degree or equivalent in Fire Science, Fire Protection Engineering, Public Administration, or a related field. Five years of progressive experience in fire prevention, including inspection, investigation, and code enforcement. Certifications: ICC Fire Inspector I certification. Technical Expertise: Advanced knowledge of modern fire prevention principles, investigation techniques, and protection systems. Leadership and Management: Demonstrated ability to lead programs and supervise personnel. Communication and Interpersonal: Advanced written and verbal communication abilities. Technical Tools: Proficiency with fire prevention software and digital reporting systems. Must be 18 years or older. Maintain required professional certifications. Successfully pass background check and drug screening. Valid Utah driver's license. Desired Qualifications Demonstrates ethical leadership and professional integrity. Experience with Wildland Urban Interface Code enforcement. Working Conditions Physical Demands: Frequent standing, sitting, walking, and occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds. Work Environment: Primarily office-based with frequent field activities, exposure to construction sites, and emergency response requirements.
