Position Summary

The Direct Care Professional (DCP) is responsible for providing direct support, supervision, assistance, and skill-building services to individuals receiving services from Umbrellex.

DCPs assist individuals with their daily needs, personal goals, community integration, appointments, activities, and objectives outlined in their Individual Plan of Service (IPOS/ISP).

This position requires employees to work where needed within their assigned geographic area.  DCPs are employees of Umbrellex Behavioral Health Services and are not assigned exclusively to one home, site, or consumer.

Schedule

Shifts Available: Varies based on program and staffing needs.

Employees must maintain the flexibility necessary to meet program coverage requirements. This may include days, afternoons, midnights, weekends, holidays, split shifts, and assignments at multiple locations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Direct Care Professionals are expected to:

• Provide direct care and support to individuals according to their Individual Plan of Service (IPOS/ISP), treatment plans, and identified goals.
• Assist individuals with day-to-day activities, objectives, challenges, and barriers while promoting independence and personal choice.
• Provide training and educational opportunities to individuals according to their needs, abilities, and established program goals.
• Establish and maintain appropriate community participation plans for assigned individuals.
• Assist individuals with community integration, recreational activities, shopping, appointments, and other approved activities.
• Transport individuals safely to medical appointments, community activities, programs, and other required destinations.
• Accompany individuals, when required, to hospitals, urgent care facilities, courts, jails, medical appointments, community outings, and other locations.
• Attend and participate in meetings related to consumer services and program objectives.
• Assist with service plans, family communication, provider communication, and implementation of program objectives.
• Serve as an advocate for the rights, dignity, safety, and well-being of individuals receiving services.
• Prepare accurate and timely daily service notes and other required documentation.
• Accurately document consumer service hours and submit required documentation according to company procedures.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, case managers, guardians, families, and other authorized service providers.
• Work cooperatively with other Direct Care Professionals to maintain program consistency, communication, and continuity of care.
• Follow all Recipient Rights, confidentiality, safety, medication, emergency, and company policies and procedures.
• Attend required staff meetings, in-service meetings, trainings, supervisory meetings, and  all mandatory emergency staff meetings .
• Maintain professional boundaries with consumers, families, coworkers, and other service providers.
• Immediately report incidents, concerns, suspected abuse or neglect, safety issues, and other required matters according to company policy and applicable regulations.

Staffing, Cross-Training, and Location Requirements

Because Umbrellex provides services at multiple locations, flexibility is an essential function of this position.

Employees are:

• Required to work a flexible schedule when necessary to meet coverage needs and job requirements.
• Required to cross-train at other Umbrellex sites as determined by management.
• Required to work at various locations within their assigned geographic area or county based on operational and consumer needs.
• Expected to possess or develop the skills necessary to appropriately support the consumers to whom they are assigned.
• Expected to accept assignments with new or different consumers based on business, staffing, program, and consumer needs.
• Required to report for all scheduled shifts unless specifically released from the shift by authorized management.
• Expected to remain available for reassignment when a regularly assigned consumer is absent or unavailable.
• May be required to work split shifts or provide coverage at more than one location when operationally necessary.

Employment with Umbrellex Behavioral Health Services is with the agency, not with a specific home, program, site, or consumer.

Attendance and Reliability

Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position.

Employees are expected to report to work on time and remain for the entirety of their scheduled shift unless otherwise authorized.

Because our programs provide essential services and supervision to vulnerable individuals, unscheduled absences and late call-offs can significantly affect consumer safety and program operations.

Excessive absenteeism, tardiness, call-offs, no-call/no-shows, or failure to report for assigned shifts may result in corrective action, up to and including termination of employment, in accordance with company policy.

Required Qualifications

Applicants must:

• Be at least 18 years of age .
• Possess valid physical identification. Photographs or copies of identification may not be accepted when original documentation is required for employment verification.
• Provide required employment eligibility documentation, which may include valid identification, Social Security card, birth certificate, or other legally acceptable documentation.
• Be legally authorized to work in the United States.
• Possess effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Demonstrate professionalism, dependability, good judgment, and appropriate customer service skills.
• Be capable of maintaining professional relationships and appropriate boundaries with consumers and coworkers.
• Demonstrate strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Be able to manage multiple responsibilities and complete required documentation accurately and on time.
• Demonstrate effective problem-solving skills, including the ability to respond appropriately during emergencies and potentially life-threatening situations.
• Demonstrate planning skills and the ability to effectively utilize available resources.
• Take a proactive approach to identifying and addressing potential problems.
• Exercise discretion when handling confidential records, protected information, and private communications.
• Demonstrate the ability to interact respectfully with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
• Understand or be willing to learn requirements related to  Recipient Rights and the prevention, identification, and reporting of abuse and neglect .
• Be willing and able to safely transport consumers when required by the position.
• Be willing to work at multiple Umbrellex locations as assigned.

Employees must demonstrate basic technological competency, including the ability to use:

• Other company-required applications and technology

Access to a reliable smartphone is required for this position.

Preferred Qualifications

The following qualifications are preferred but are not necessarily required at the time of application:

• Previous experience working in group homes, AFC homes, behavioral health, community living, residential services, or direct care.
• Previous experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities, mental illness, autism spectrum disorder, or cognitive impairments.
• Current First Aid, CPR, and AED certification.

Training may be provided or required based on the position and program assignment.

Education

Applicants without a high school diploma/GED or college degree may be considered where permitted by program, contractual, licensing, and regulatory requirements.

This position may be appropriate for individuals entering the workforce, returning to the workforce, or seeking to begin a career in behavioral health and human services.

Work Location

Multiple Umbrellex Behavioral Health Services locations.

Employees may be assigned or reassigned to different locations based on consumer needs, staffing requirements, program needs, and business operations.
