At FamilyMeans, we are looking for individuals who want to make a difference in someone’s life. We are looking for volunteers to provide a respite break for caregivers living in Washington County. This opportunity would allow the caregiver to take a break while you provide safety and socialization with the individual that is being cared for. This 2-3 hour block of time allows volunteers the chance to connect and learn new things. Time could be spent socializing, learning about one another, playing cards/games, working on puzzles/projects, watching TV and even enjoying good weather outdoors.
Our Social Workers follow our clients journey and have a good understanding of respite needs. The social workers conduct a match meeting that includes; themselves, the caregiver and individual that is being cared for and the interested volunteer. This is where we begin to learn about each other, schedules, preferences and set expectations. We want to make sure that everyone is comfortable and that the respite matched are a good fit for everyone. Once a match is agreed upon, weekly dates and times are determined by the volunteer and caregiver and the respite breaks begin. The social worker continues to support the family and the volunteer coordinator continues to support the volunteer to ensure a successful match.
