The ideal candidate also has a strong work ethic, has outstanding communication skills, and most importantly, is a consummate professional who exemplifies outstanding public service.Under general supervision, Maintenance Worker II performs general maintenance and repairs to City facilities, landscape, electrical systems, irrigation systems, plumbing, street trees, sewers, storm drains, streets, curbs, gutters, sidewalks, alleys, street signs, and traffic signals, and performs other related duties as assigned. The Maintenance Worker II performs simple to moderately complex, manual-skilled maintenance work in support of an assigned crew. This class differs from a Maintenance Leadperson due to the level of experience required, complexity of work performed, and greater independence of action within established guidelines.Notice: This recruitment will be filling a current opening in the Field Operations Division - Streets. This assignment specializes in performing concrete/asphalt repairs to City streets, curbs, gutters, and sidewalks. Other job knowledge needed include methods and standards for street stenciling and striping as well as methods and standards for street signage (way signage).The position typically requires, at a minimum, the following:Possession of a high school diploma or GED.One (1) year or more of full-time experience in maintenance and/or a construction trade.License and Certifications:Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License and ability to maintain a satisfactory driving record while employed with the City.Possession or the ability to obtain within one (1) year of appointment a valid Class B California Driver's License.Application instructions: Candidates must complete a City of San Gabriel online application. Candidates must attain a minimum score of 70% on the oral panel interview to qualify for the Eligibility List.Practical Exam: For some recruitments, a practical exam may be administered. The practical exam is a supplemental examination/evaluation tool that is typically not scored or used for qualifying purposes.Eligibility List: Those attaining a qualifying score on the examination will be placed on the Eligibility List for this position. Candidates on the Eligibility List are deemed qualified for the position and may be called at any time to participate in a selection interview with the hiring department to fill a vacancy in this position.
