RN Nurse Manager Neonatal/Pediatric Intensive Care

Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse - Manager for NICU/PICU/PEDS is responsible for overseeing daily operations, patient care quality, and staff management within the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, and Pediatrics. This role includes hiring, scheduling, budgeting, policy development, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and collective bargaining agreements. The manager fosters a positive environment for caring for critically ill pediatric patients and collaborates closely with neonatologists, pediatric specialists, and multidisciplinary teams. The position requires strong leadership, supervisory skills, and 24/7 accountability. Responsibilities:

• Oversee daily operations and patient care quality in NICU, PICU, and Pediatrics units.
• Manage hiring, scheduling, budgeting, and policy development.
• Ensure compliance with applicable collective bargaining agreements and hospital policies.
• Participate in collective bargaining negotiations and labor relations discussions.
• Document, recommend, and implement disciplinary actions in coordination with labor relations.
• Direct and enforce management policies and practices.
• Use independent judgment to address staffing issues including hiring, transferring, suspending, laying off, recalling, promoting, discharging, assigning, directing, or disciplining employees.
• Access and review hospital records systems to support management decisions.
• Collaborate with labor relations to interpret and apply past practices and agreements.
• Foster a positive and supportive environment for staff and patients.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Active Registered Professional Nurse license in the State of Illinois.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing.
• Minimum five (5) years nursing experience within Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
• At least two (2) years of nursing supervision experience.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Current Neonatal Pulmonary Resuscitation (NRP) certification or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Master's Degree in Nursing.
• Bilingual language skills.

Special Considerations:

• 24/7 accountability for unit operations.
• Must adhere to collective bargaining agreements and collaborate closely with labor relations.
• Responsible for disciplinary actions and enforcement of management policies.
• Work environment includes critical care units such as NICU, PICU, and Pediatrics.

Scheduling:

• Work schedule consists of five 8-hour shifts, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM.
• Weekend shifts required as needed, not exceeding one weekend shift per month.
