Certified School NurseByron C.U.S.D. #226 Byron, IllinoisJob Goal: The primary functions of the School Nurse are to manage a comprehensive program to monitor and respond to the health needs of the pupils, assist in health instruction, and serve as a resource to staff, students, and parents in meeting the medical needs of the student body.Terms of Employment: Nine-month contract; Salary to be determined by the Board of Education.Required Qualifications:Illinois Type 73 Pupil Personnel Services Certificate Registered Nurse licensurePreferred Qualifications:Current First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation program completionIllinois Certification as a Vision and Hearing Screening technicianComputer literacy and competency in use of technologyPrior professional nursing experience, preferably pediatric, adolescent, community or mental health nursing, and health program management.Responsibilities:Clinical Care & Screening: Conduct student health screenings, administer medications, manage emergency care for illness/injury, and refer students for medical or dental treatment.Health Records & Reporting: Maintain accurate, up-to-date cumulative health records for all students and submit required district and state health reports.Consultation & Education: Consult with parents, physicians, and staff, conduct home visits as needed, and assist with health and family education instruction.Staff Training & Guidance: Provide in-service training for staff on health topics, communicable disease identification, sanitary conditions, and individual student accommodations.Policy & Operations: Help develop district health policies, monitor chronic and infectious disease protocols, maintain health offices, and perform other duties as assigned by the Board of Education.
