Cross-Cultural Competence Program The Cross-Cultural Competence (C3) Program supports educators in building resilient cultural identities while reflecting on the lens through which they view their students and communities, their relationships, and their teaching practices. C3 guides participants through a cultural induction program that includes a cultural immersion experience, supportive cohort gatherings during the school year, a graduate-level university course, and community mentorship. Educators who come through C3 gain the tools, support, and confidence to sustainably build welcoming school spaces that reflect and honor the cultures of their communities.

Position Summary The C3 Bristol Bay Program Manager will manage the Alaska Humanities Forum (AKHF)’s portion of the C3 project in Bristol Bay, alongside Bristol Bay Foundation, University of Alaska Anchorage, and Bristol Bay’s 4 school districts, with specific emphasis on cultivating and supporting cohorts of educators and community partners. The right candidate will have a passion for, and proven experience in, cross-cultural work, program management, collaborative partnerships, and rural community engagement in Alaska. This position will report to the Director of C3 Programs.

Essential Job Duties Program Management

• Cultivate strong relationships with program partners and participants across the Bristol Bay region of Alaska, including hosting monthly partner meetings
• Oversee recruitment and onboarding of a C3 course instructor and support co-development of a syllabus for course, with partner input
• Recruit, build, and support cohort of educators 
• Coordinate and book travel for educators and AKHF staff within the Bristol Bay region and Anchorage for program activities
• Ensure program meets goals outlined in grant and draft monthly performance reports
• Perform data collection, project evaluation and reporting functions, including logging participant information and activities
• Manage contracts and contractors associated with this project
• Work with Vice President of Development & Communications to support C3 communications plan
• Travel to summer culture camps and other events in Bristol Bay region and act as Forum staff representative, as opportunities arise

Budget Management

• Manage AKHF’s portion of the project budget, including drafting budget narratives and amendments with support from Director of C3 Programs and Vice President of Programs and Partnerships
  

Development, Facilitation, and Continuous Improvement

• Lead the design and facilitation of gatherings for Bristol Bay educator participants, both virtual and in-person
• Ensure program events follow the Forum’s preferred methodologies for gathering, such as The Art of Hosting, World Cafe, and other models of convening and dialogue
• Contribute to Forum team of facilitators by facilitating C3 Program and Forum internal convenings as opportunities arise
• Participate in annual professional development to enhance skills in project design and facilitation 
• Present at statewide education conferences
• Co-develop new program components to help deepen teacher connections within and across regions, including for C3 program alumni engagement
• Collaborate with Director of C3 Programs, Vice President of Programs and Partnerships, and other program managers to develop new programming in response to need, funding opportunities, and Forum capacity
• Support efforts to seek funding for new and existing initiatives by offering insight into Alaska’s educational landscape

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

• Must support and believe in the mission of AKHF
• Must be committed to supporting an equitable and inclusive organizational culture
• Must have demonstrated skill in managing rural Alaska travel details and communication across cultures
• Must have an understanding of the history, dynamics and challenges of Western education in rural Alaska
• Must have own transportation, driver’s license, and reliable personal vehicle;
• Must be able to pass state and federal background checks

Education/Training

• Applicant must have experience working in Alaska (outside of Anchorage) and experience coordinating large in-person gatherings. Experience working or living in Bristol Bay strongly preferred.
• Applicant must be an experienced facilitator and conversation designer
• Applicant must have demonstrated experience successfully planning and managing a project that takes place in rural Alaska
• Applicant must have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 25 lbs;
• Must be comfortable traveling in small (6-seater) airplanes and boats;
• Comfortable driving participants in rental vehicles
• Ability to participate in virtual meetings for up to four hours with short breaks;
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Microsoft Teams, G-Suite, Zoom.

Conditions of Employment

The C3 Program Manager role is an exempt, full-time temporary position with an end date of September 30th, 2028. The position is based at the Forum offices in Anchorage with a regular weekday work schedule of 40 hours per week. This position will involve some weekends & evenings, and include rural travel. Benefits include medical, dental, disability, ten paid holidays per year, nine earned paid time off hours each pay period, paid family leave, and a 403(b)-retirement plan.
