Job Summary:
The Maintenance Materials Specialist is responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective management of spare parts, and materials required for the maintenance and repair of manufacturing equipment. This role is critical in minimizing downtime and optimizing operational efficiency.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Manage inventory of spare parts, consumables, and tools for various manufacturing equipment, ensuring adequate stock levels to support maintenance operations.
- Develop and implement inventory control procedures, including receiving, issuing, tracking, and returning materials.
- Conduct regular physical inventory counts and reconcile discrepancies.
- Collaborate with maintenance technicians and engineers to identify critical spare parts and establish appropriate reorder points and safety stock levels.
- Source and procure materials from approved vendors, negotiate pricing, and manage vendor relationships.
- Process purchase requisitions and orders, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to budget.
- Maintain accurate records of all materials transactions, including receipts, issues, and returns, utilizing an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system or similar inventory management software.
- Identify and implement opportunities for cost reduction and inventory optimization.
- Support the development and implementation of a preventive maintenance program by ensuring availability of necessary parts.
- Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures related to material handling and storage.
- Prepare reports on inventory levels, material usage, and procurement activities.
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or a related field preferred.
- 3+ years of experience in materials management, inventory control, or a related role within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Proven experience with ERP systems (Coupa, Maximo) or dedicated inventory management software.
- Strong understanding of inventory control principles and practices, including cycle counting, reorder points, and safety stock.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with a strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced manufacturing setting.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with vendors, internal stakeholders, and maintenance personnel.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Ability to lift and move materials up to 35 pounds.
- Forklift certification or ability to obtain one preferred.
