Job Title: Maintenance Engineer / Industrial Maintenance Technician Job Description

This role focuses on maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing a wide range of industrial food production equipment in a large, BRC-certified tortilla manufacturing facility. The Maintenance Engineer supports continuous production by keeping mixers, ovens, presses, packaging machinery, and conveyor systems operating safely and efficiently. The position requires strong mechanical and electrical skills, hands-on troubleshooting experience, and the ability to work overnight shifts with regular weekend coverage.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, and electrical systems used in production machinery.
• Maintain and repair motors, gearboxes, mechanical drives, belts, bearings, and other moving mechanical assemblies.
• Diagnose and service conveyor systems, including belts, rollers, chain drives, sensors, tracking, and alignment issues.
• Perform preventive maintenance on mixers, ovens, presses, packaging machines, and facility utilities such as compressed air, chilled water, and hot water systems.
• Read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, wiring diagrams, and work orders to diagnose and resolve equipment issues.
• Use multimeters, test meters, and, when qualified, PLC interface tools (Allen-Bradley/Siemens) to support troubleshooting activities.
• Install, adjust, align, and replace components such as cylinders, sensors, valves, motors, actuators, and switches.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records, repair logs, preventive maintenance documentation, and parts usage reports.
• Follow strict food-safety, sanitation, and BRC-compliant practices during all maintenance activities.
• Respond quickly to emergency equipment breakdowns and support production teams in reducing downtime.
• Perform housekeeping, safety compliance tasks, and equipment cleaning as needed to maintain a safe and orderly work area.
• Attend shift meetings each morning to review the daily plan and assigned work.
• Complete an assigned list of preventive maintenance tasks, typically 3–4 PMs per day, while also responding promptly to calls from the production team.

Essential Skills

• Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude, with hands-on experience in industrial maintenance.
• Ability to troubleshoot and repair hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Experience maintaining and repairing motors, gearboxes, mechanical drives, belts, bearings, and related components.
• Proficiency in conveyor maintenance, including identifying jam points, belt tracking issues, failed rollers, misalignment, and sensor faults across multiple conveyor types.
• Ability to use a multimeter confidently for electrical diagnostics.
• Capability to wire and troubleshoot 480V motors safely and correctly.
• Understanding of how PLCs and VFDs work and what they do in an industrial environment.
• Basic electrical troubleshooting skills with familiarity in PLC troubleshooting, particularly Allen-Bradley and Siemens platforms.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, wiring diagrams, and work orders.
• Willingness and ability to work overnight (third shift) from 10:00 PM to 7:00 AM.
• Willingness to work every weekend, with two days off during the week.
• Strong teamwork, communication, and collaboration skills, with a positive attitude when working alongside production and sanitation teams.
• Comfort working in a warm bakery environment where temperatures can average around 85&degree;F and occasionally reach up to 110&degree;F.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Food manufacturing or bakery production experience is a plus.
• Experience performing preventive maintenance programs in an industrial setting.
• Familiarity with BRC or other food-safety and quality standards is beneficial.
• Ability to articulate technical issues and solutions clearly during interviews and in day-to-day communication.
• Experience using PLC interface tools for more advanced troubleshooting is an advantage.
• Comfort working night shifts and adapting to a schedule that includes regular weekend work.
• No formal certifications or medical qualifications are required for this role.

Work Environment

The role is based in a large, BRC-certified food production facility that manufactures tortillas for national distribution. The plant operates extensive industrial equipment, including mixers, ovens, presses, packaging machinery, and multiple conveyor systems. The position is on third shift, working from 10:00 PM to 7:00 AM, with every weekend scheduled and two days off provided during the week. The environment is spot climate controlled, but as a bakery, temperatures can be warm, averaging around 85&degree;F and reaching up to 110&degree;F in some areas. The culture is people-focused, with strong collaboration between maintenance, production, and sanitation teams, and a positive attitude considered a key part of success. Personal protective equipment is required, including steel-toe boots in the manufacturing areas, and employees are expected to follow all safety, sanitation, and food-safety standards while working around industrial machinery.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Orlando, FL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
