Assistant Registered Nurse (RN) - Neurosurgery - $31-43 per hour

Job Overview Detroit Medical Center is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) Neurosurgery Assistant in Detroit, Michigan. Duration: Ongoing, 36 hours per week, 12‑hour shifts, Staff employment. Sign‑on bonus: $2,500 (required relevant experience). Responsibilities Assist physicians and physician extenders during neurosurgical examinations and procedures. Prepare and manage exam rooms, position patients, handle instruments and equipment. Measure vital signs, document findings in patient charts. Perform non‑intravenous injections, venipuncture, EKGs, routine x‑rays, pulmonary function tests, and other related activities. Coordinate patient scheduling, obtain referrals, and confirm appointments. Contact insurance providers for benefit verification and manage payments. Maintain patient records, input billing information, and process reimbursements. Provide laboratory and statistical data preparation, correspondence typing, and training of new staff. Adhere to safety standards (JCAHO/OSHA) and participate in safety training, including CPR. Qualifications High school diploma or GED. Graduation from a practical nursing school or completion of one of the following programs: PCA/PCT Program Nurse Assistant Program or equivalent training. Medical Assistant Program, or six months of experience in a doctor’s office performing Medical Assistant duties. EMT certification. Phlebotomy training program. One year of previous experience performing Medical Assistant or Patient Care Associate duties. One year of experience in medical office clerical duties (insurance verification, authorizations, billing, EMR usage). Preferred: Medical Assistant certification.
