If you are passionate about creating more diverse, inclusive, and equitable communities where all people are welcome, Avalon may be a good fit for you.Using a Housing First approach, Avalon's Family Services Support Coordinators provide outreach, case management and housing support services to Avalon tenants in households with minor children. The individuals we serve face many challenges, including mental illness, substance use disorders, and/or chronic medical conditions in addition to chronic homelessness. Our clients live in Avalon Housing units, with private landlords or in public housing located within Washtenaw County.Support Coordinators collaborate with community partners to coordinate delivery of a broad range of services that meet the mental, physical, psycho-social and housing needs of our clients, either through direct service or connections to appropriate resources.In addition to a competitive salary, here are some of the key benefits that Avalon staff receive:Paid Time OffPaid time off includes three weeks of vacation time plus additional sick and personal time allowances. Life and Disability Plans:Employees working 16 or more hours per week receive life insurance and short-term disability coverage-Avalon covers the full cost of the premiums.403(b) Retirement Plan:Avalon sponsors a 403(b) retirement plan through Vanguard, available to all employees.Core Responsibilities Include:Provide ongoing, active outreach and creative engagement to tenantsConduct comprehensive assessments and help tenants develop action plans to achieve goalsWork with tenants and property management to coordinate eviction prevention efforts and develop housing permanency plans.Negotiate and advocate with external community resources providing medical, mental health, substance use, and other supportsAssist tenants with conflict resolution among tenants and neighborsWork to build community and peer support among tenants, including organizing community events and activitiesMeet documentation requirements as dictated by program needWork with clients in their homes, in community centers, and in the larger communityParticipate in on-call rotation and occasional evening and weekend work as necessaryAssist tenants as needed with activities of daily living such as transportation, housekeeping, meal preparation, medication, shopping, laundry, or other hands-on assistanceDesired Qualifications & ExperienceBachelor's or Master's degree in a social or behavioral science or relevant field or three years of relevant experienceExperience working with people who are homeless, people with mental illness, chronic health issues, and/or addiction disorders, or similar populationsSkilled in crisis response situationsMust possess a highly positive and enthusiastic attitude and strong commitment toward helping those in needProven ability to manage partnerships with a high degree of skill while upholding Avalon's mission and values, particularly when working with stakeholders who may have differing perspectives or prioritiesInterest and experience in working with individuals who are difficult to engage and refer to traditional programs; experience with harm reduction and trauma-informed careAvalon Housing is dedicated to eliminating racial inequities.
