The role involves assessing nutritional status, developing and implementing nutrition care plans for pediatric renal patients, and providing education and support to patients, families, and care providers. This position is essential to advance patient‑centered medical goals for children with kidney disease. Detailed benefits information can be found at Responsibilities (Essential Functions) Conduct comprehensive nutritional assessments for patients by collecting, recording, and interpreting data from patients, families, and other stakeholders. Assess pediatric renal patients’ nutritional status, growth, and development, and screen for potential risks in nephrology, dialysis, transplant clinics and inpatient settings. Provide nutrition therapy for patients with chronic kidney disease using laboratory data, food records, and growth patterns to formulate dietary recommendations. Organize data to link assessment parameters with diagnoses and determine when consultation or referral is needed. Interpret medical and laboratory parameters to determine diet/formula recommendations, evaluating diet history and lab values. Communicate laboratory results and changes in therapy to patients and providers, providing diet education as needed. Recommend appropriate feeding modalities, diet, or nutrition support, and coordinate with pediatric nephrologist, monitoring response and adjusting interventions. Collaborate with health care providers and caregivers to implement and communicate the nutrition care plan and coordinate insurance documentation for medication and formula coverage. Provide patient education on nutritional needs on both inpatient and outpatient services and develop new educational approaches. Teach diet therapy to nursing, medical students, residents, and other providers; conduct in‑services and update educational materials. Participate in outcomes measurement initiatives, report data, and serve as a member of the Pediatric Nephrology Team. Maintain accurate records of clinical activities, prescriptions, growth data, and counseling sessions in the EMR. Complete WIC and home‑care orders for enteral nutrition needs. Rotate on‑call responsibilities to provide inpatient consultations; available email/phone to on‑call nephrologist Mon‑Fri 8am‑5pm, excluding weekends and holidays. Participate in pediatric nephrology inpatient rounds as needed. Enter nutrition‑related orders as defined by the University of Utah dietitian order writing protocol. Engage in division‑based research and quality improvement projects. Collaborate closely with the renal transplant and dialysis teams to enhance patient nutritional care. Keep current with developments in clinical nutrition for pediatric renal disease and maintain standards of practice. Attend outpatient clinic visits in person at Primary Children’s Hospital Salt Lake City and Lehi campuses; provide virtual visits for selected patients. Problem Solving Demonstrate ability to perform essential functions and provide care to the population served. Apply knowledge of lifespan growth and development principles. Assess patient data and provide care per department policies. Show proficiency with word processing, nutrient analysis, and spreadsheet software. Exhibit human relations and effective communication skills. Educate patients of varying education levels. Understand nutrition‑related order entry and ancillary service coordination. Deliver patient‑centered care with respect and positive attitude. Protect patient‑protected health information per HIPAA. Apply advanced physiology, biochemistry, and metabolism knowledge to clinical nutrition. Comply with CMS conditions of participation and coverage for Medicare/Medicaid payments. Required Qualifications Registered Dietitian with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Current license to practice as a Certified Dietitian in the State of Utah. Position requires light work up to 20 lb and lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling of medical equipment. Preferred Qualifications Two years of clinical/practical experience, or one year of education for equivalent experience. Nutrition Focused Physical Exam (NFPE) training.
