As a Principal Software Architect at BambooHR you will work with an exceptional team of talented individuals who live and breathe our Bamboo Values. You will help define BambooHR's technical strategy for intelligent product experiences. You will architect and guide the delivery of AI‑powered capabilities that are secure, reliable, observable, and maintainable at scale, balancing modern AI capabilities with sound software engineering principles. Although writing code is part of this role, it goes beyond just that. You will have many additional responsibilities, listed below. Responsibilities Build reliable AI systems in production, including prompt/version management, evaluation and regression testing, monitoring for drift/quality, and cost performance optimization. Establish responsible AI practices for the team (privacy, data handling, model risk, human‑in‑the‑loop workflows), and contribute to patterns/standards that scale across services. Defining architectural changes that can be implemented incrementally, while minimizing risk. Defining advancements in architecture that roll the software in the right direction. Collaborate with a variety of stakeholders to determine architectural priorities. Building, fixing, and improving code, especially high‑value code. Training team members on basic practices, new techniques, and past mistakes. Helping the team to be able to build code with confidence. Qualifications Bachelor’s in technology‑related field or equivalent certification in development. At least 10 years of engineering experience with at least 7 of those years having been in software architecture. Experience developing SaaS software utilizing various coding languages including React, PHP, MySQL, etc. and the ability to pick up new languages quickly. Experience with the full lifecycle of software development including the use of version control tools, build management, unit testing systems and API (paradigms). Experience deploying solutions and provisioning environments with best‑practice solutions. Experience with CI/CD and deployment systems. Exceptional communication and collaboration skills. Ability to tactfully and effectively give and receive concrete feedback. Knowledgeable in security best practices, including OWASP Top 10. Familiarity with static analysis and code scanning. Experience delivering AI‑backed features end‑to‑end in a production environment, including integration with LLM APIs or ML Services, and a track record of iterating based on evaluation data and user impact. Ability to lead technically in ambiguous problem spaces – making sound tradeoffs, mentoring others on AI patterns, and raising the bar on code quality and operational excellence.
