Patient Access Rep Position Details: Department: PCH-NW | ED Registration Location: Glendale Shift: Mon-Fri, Sat, Sun (Days Vary), 6:30am-7pm Category: Patient Access Posting #: 1029840 Employee Type: Part-Time Position Summary Join the Phoenix Children's Emergency Department team as a Patient Access Representative and play a vital role in creating a positive experience for patients and families from the moment they arrive. The role works days from 6:30am to 7:00pm with a rotating weekend schedule. The first week of training is required Monday through Friday at the Phoenix Children's Main Campus before transitioning on site at Arrowhead. Position Duties Arrive patients who present for professional and hospital services that have been pre‑registered and collect co‑pay and deductible amounts. Obtain all necessary signatures from the guarantor at the time of registration or arrival. Accurately document all information in the appropriate fields, maintaining accuracy when entering demographic and insurance information. Courteously answer the telephone and respond to inquiries in a timely manner. Identify and refer uninsured and underinsured patients to the Financial Counselor. Inquire patient account system(s) to identify any previous unpaid liability. Maintain a positive working relationship with patients, guarantors, insurance companies, government entities, clinical personnel, co‑workers, and management. Organize, prioritize, and monitor daily work activity to ensure complete, accurate, and compliant registration is performed promptly. Participate in unit and hospital educational programs to maintain current skill and competency levels. Perform registration in the appropriate HIS system, verify insurance coverage, and obtain authorization for patients not pre‑registered. Perform miscellaneous job‑related duties as requested. Position Qualifications Education (Required) High school diploma or equivalent. Associate’s Degree in Healthcare, Business or related field. Experience (Required) 1 year of related office or retail experience including direct customer contact and service. Electronic Medical Record (EMR) experience. Experience with AMPFM, Misys, or HIS platform (preferred). Special Skills (Required) Effective verbal and written communication skills, professional demeanor, team player with a customer‑focused attitude. Knowledge of Medical Terminology and ICD‑9/CPT codes and an understanding of HIPAA privacy laws. Additional Requirements (Required) Current BLS certification for Healthcare Provider from the American Heart Association.
