Nurse Practitioner - Critical Care APP

Job Description The Critical Care Nurse Practitioner (CCNP) is a licensed nurse with advanced education, knowledge, clinical skills, and experience necessary to provide expert advanced practice nursing in critical care. The primary responsibility of the CCNP is providing and directing care for patients in the adult ICUs at UCSF Medical Center. The CCNP is responsible for maintaining quality of care standards for all procedures and clinical care provided in the ICUs and for self‑direction and accountability in the development of this role within the medical center. Responsibilities Provide and direct advanced practice nursing care to adult ICU patients at UCSF Medical Center. Maintain quality of care standards for all procedures and clinical care. Provide self‑direction and accountability in developing the CCNP role. Provide medical and nursing care under the supervision of the Physician Director of Adult Critical Care Medicine. Provide care in accordance with standardized procedures. Be proficient in arterial catheter insertion, central venous catheter insertion, ventilator management, sedation, and pain control. Participate in the pre‑cepting of Advanced Practice Provider (APP) students and postgraduate fellows. Work on a 12‑hour rotating shift schedule from days to nights, including holidays and weekends. Qualifications Graduation from a California Board of Registered Nursing recognized Nurse Practitioner Program with a master’s or doctoral degree aligned with the patient population and clinical role. One (1) year of recent experience working in Adult Critical Care as a Nurse Practitioner or completion of an accredited critical care practice transition program. Preferred Qualifications Completion of an accredited critical care practice transition program. Two (2) years of recent experience as an inpatient Adult Nurse Practitioner in an academic medical center. Author of publication in a peer‑reviewed journal. Experience as faculty or instructor in a graduate nursing program. License / Certification California Registered Nurse (RN) license without restriction. California Nurse Practitioner (NP) license without restriction. California Nurse Practitioner Furnishing Number. NP national board certification from an accepted certifying agency aligned with the patient population and clinical role (e.g., ACNP‑BC, AGACNP‑BC, ACNPC‑AG, ACNPC). California Driver License (if required for position). Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Registration with schedules 2, 2N, 3, 3N, 4, and 5 registered to a California address. American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Additional required AHA certifications: ACLS. Additional required certifications (such as ENLS): ENLS.
