Lead, Area Health Information Specialist

Location: Baltimore and Bethesda, MD Work Model: On-Site with Travel (Local travel required) Schedule: Monday‑Friday | 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM | EST Status: Full‑Time Requisition Priority: Urgent Position Overview We are seeking a Lead, Area Health Information Specialist to support Release of Information (ROI) operations across multiple healthcare facilities throughout Baltimore and Bethesda. This is a hybrid, traveling role that requires regular presence at assigned facilities to ensure operational continuity, staff support, and client satisfaction. What You’ll Do The Area Lead plays a critical role in supporting daily ROI operations while serving as a leader, mentor, and point of escalation for staff and clients. Responsibilities include: Provide consistent on‑site coverage at assigned facilities based on operational needs Support ROI operations across Baltimore and Montgomery County sites, including hospitals and clinics Serve as a primary point of contact between client stakeholders and internal leadership Assist with onboarding, training, mentoring, and workflow support for HIS staff Communicate staffing needs, coverage gaps, volume changes, and site challenges proactively Support productivity, quality, and service improvement initiatives Accurately process medical record and ROI requests while maintaining strict confidentiality Manage high‑volume inbound and outbound calls from patients, providers, and authorized requestors Handle fax, mail, and electronic ROI workflows, including logging and tracking requests Review, date‑stamp, and upload requests into HealthSource Monitor fax queues, shared drives, and email inboxes to ensure timely processing Create encrypted CDs/DVDs and maintain proper documentation Assist walk‑in patients by verifying identity and processing disclosures Monitor and complete patient transfers throughout the workday Ensure full compliance with HIPAA, privacy regulations, and client‑specific policies Maintain working knowledge of site‑specific workflows and systems Support continuity of coverage and minimize operational risk across all assigned sites What We’re Looking For We’re seeking someone who is: Motivated to lead and grow in an Area Lead role Professional, dependable, and service‑oriented Reliable and punctual – attendance is critical Comfortable working fully on‑site while traveling locally between facilities A strong communicator with both clients and internal teams Highly organized and able to manage competing priorities Willing to lead by example and support staff in real time Experienced in healthcare, HIM, or ROI environments Requirements High School Diploma or GED required Prior healthcare, HIM, medical records, or ROI experience required Experience with ROI workflows and EMR systems required Lead or supervisory experience preferred Ability to travel locally between Baltimore City and Montgomery County sites Proficiency with computers, email systems, and standard office equipment Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations Pay Pay ranges for this job title may differ based on location, responsibilities, skills, experience, and other requirements of the role.
