Delivers comprehensive, regulatory‑compliant nursing care across diverse acute care units, including Medical/Surgical, Telemetry, Behavioral Health, ED, ICU, PACU, as assigned. Base Rate: $49.87 to $73.32 12 hr. shifts – paid overtime after 8 hours, resulting in an average rate of $58.18 – $85.54 Sign‑on/Retention Bonus: $10,000 / Full Time Only Job Summary: The Float Pool Registered Nurse (RN) can be assigned to any unit within the floating cluster assigned per the competency without any exception. The Float Pool RN is responsible for the provision and coordination of patient‑centered care in the assigned area and follows the nursing process in the safe delivery of patient care. The Float Pool RN coordinates care to achieve desired outcomes, participates in patient and family teaching and provides leadership by delegating and working cooperatively and collaboratively with ancillary, nursing and other patient team members in maintaining standards for professional nursing practice and performance in the clinical setting. The Float Pool RN must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and service to all patients in the assigned unit. Works in close coordination with the House Supervisors and Nursing Directors to troubleshoot staffing issues to ensure safe staffing throughout the hospital. Delivers comprehensive, regulatory‑compliant nursing care across diverse acute care units, including Medical/Surgical, Telemetry, Behavioral Health, ED, ICU, PACU, as assigned. Actively and consistently contributes to the delivery of patient care, operations and communications, behaves in a manner consistent with the mission, vision, and values of Pipeline Health, upholding standards of AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank you) patient communication. Essential Functions Competent practicing in all units assigned within the float pool cluster, as defined: Float Pool RN II: Competent to float to any unit in the facility/organization. Change dressings, insert catheters, and start IVs. Accurately obtain & record results of assessment, care delivery, medication and administration, treatments, responses in the electronic medical record or on documentation packets. Adjust specialized medical equipment as needed and interpret and record measurements. Monitor patients’ vital signs and report adverse reactions to medication in a timely manner. Answer questions and educate patients and families on surgical procedures and post‑surgery care. Maintain and update patient files, medical charts, and health records. Collect current symptoms, detailed patient history and consult and coordinate with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement & evaluate patient care plans. Organize and plan care of patients, with the ability to assess, determine treatment rationale and delivery, follow protocols, administer medications with accuracy and knowledge, educate patients. Attend and/or complete monthly, annual, and assigned training. Perform daily checks and clean equipment such as monitors, code equipment, crash cart, oxygen cylinders. Prepare and administer medications using the rights established by State Board of Nursing and facility policies and procedures. Use clear, concise, professional communication with coworkers, patients, all customers internal and external. Use AIDET in interactions with patients and family members and utilize white boards for patient communication. Collaborate across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including but not limited to patient transfer, discharge, referrals, and spiritual/psychosocial support needs. Monitor patients using proper equipment as ordered. Triage patients appropriately using the ESI (Emergency Severity Index) system. Arrive to work prepared to receive patient report on time. Provide discharge instructions, follow‑up care and education to patients and family members. Abide by HIPAA regulations. Utilize SBAR when communicating with oncoming shift, physicians and giving report to ancillary or nursing services. Utilize the Nursing Process ADPIE to secure individualized and methodical patient care. Speak up to stop the line and escalates potential safety events if necessary. Act quickly, appropriately and with urgency and prioritization in delivery of patient care. Stabilize patients by coordinating with medical staff, EMS, coworkers, patients, and family members in a professional calm manner. Stock assigned rooms and keep work areas clean. Other duties as assigned. Wound Care (added essential functions) Conduct comprehensive wound assessments to determine etiology, depth, and extent of wounds. Develop and implement individualized wound care plans based on patient needs and evidence‑based practices. Select and apply appropriate wound dressings and therapies, including negative pressure wound therapy, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, and bioengineered skin substitutes. Monitor wound progression and document healing at regular intervals. Educate patients and families on wound care techniques, self‑management strategies, and signs of infection. Stay up to date with the latest wound care research and clinical practice guidelines. Emergency Department Collect current symptoms, detailed patient history and consult and coordinate with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement & evaluate patient care plans. Organize and plan care of patients in the emergency department with ability to assess, determine treatment rationale and delivery, follow protocols, administer medications with accuracy and knowledge, educate patients. Perform daily checks and clean equipment such as monitors, code equipment, crash cart, oxygen cylinders. Maintain care standards established by Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) and facility policies and procedures. Stabilize patients by coordinating with medical staff, EMS, coworkers, patients, and family members in a professional calm manner. Behavioral Health Provide direct patient care to a specified patient population. Appropriately manage care of mental health patients, maintaining department standards of quality. Perform basic nursing procedures, specific unit‑based procedures and/or standardized procedures safely, accurately, and efficiently per policy. Incorporate interventions that communicate acceptance of patients’ beliefs, culture, religion, socioeconomic background. Interact with patients one‑to‑one in a therapeutic manner. Monitor safety of therapeutic milieu and assist in managing assaultive patient. Participate in monitoring patient outcomes to evaluate effectiveness and identify improvement opportunities. Understand legal aspects of nursing and importance of accurate documentation per standards and policies. Document findings in the patient record. Demonstrate efforts to maintain and improve knowledge and skills through in‑service and continuing education. Attend weekly multidisciplinary meetings to update and individualize treatment plan based on patient needs. Telemetry Monitor EKG output and keep doctors informed of any changes. ICU Care for patient needs throughout recovery in the ICU unit. Deliver regular updates to doctors, patients, and families. Manage ventilators and artificial airways. Respond to medical emergencies. Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance wound care outcomes. PACU Assess, plan, intervene and evaluate care of pre‑ and post‑operative patients. Instruct patients and families regarding medications and treatment instructions. Maintain and review patients’ records including posting tests and exam results. Administer medications in accordance with physician orders. Provide and evaluate patients prior to, during, and after surgery. Document in electronic medical records and logbooks. Stock assigned area and keep work areas clean. Participate in department performance improvement initiatives. Provide care throughout continuum. Qualifications/Experience All Float Pool RNs: Minimum one (1) year experience in Float Pool unit of expertise applied for; two (2) years preferred. In-depth knowledge of best practices in area/specialty applied for. Adaptable to changing departments, work schedules, and patient needs. Critical thinking, service excellence and good interpersonal communication skills, ability to read/comprehend written instructions, strong organizational skills, ability to follow verbal instructions, PC skills. Capacity to learn, synthesize, make critical judgments, work independently, place patients and families first, collaborate with team members recognized leaders. Education Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing or better in Nursing. Experience Required: Float Pool RN II: Competent to float to any unit in the facility/organization.
