Department Information The History and Philosophy Department prepares students foradaptable, fulfilling careers by teaching a core set oftransferable knowledge and skills through research, analyzing andassessing evidence, and articulating sound conclusions both orallyand in writing. Job Summary Kennesaw State University is now accepting applications for afull-time, tenure track faculty position as Assistant Professor ofHistory Education in the Department of History and Philosophy witha preferred start date of August 2027. This is a nine-monthcontracted position and is for work to be performed in the state ofGeorgia. Responsibilities Teach undergraduate courses in methods of history education andsupervise student teachers in their field experiences, as well as teach world or US history surveys and/or courses in their area ofspecialization. Faculty are expected to teach courses of variablesize and modalities, including large class sizes, and on Kennesawand/or Marietta campuses. Produce and disseminate high-quality, meaningful scholarship inhistory, history education, or a closely related field. Pursue external funding to support research andscholarship. Serve the department, college, university, profession, and/or community, especially K-12 education. Teaching assignments will be based on earned degrees and SACSCOCFaculty Credentials Guidelines. Required Qualifications A doctoral degree, or the foreign equivalent, HistoryEducation, Social Studies Education, or a closely related field isrequired at the time of hire. Three (3) or more years of teaching experience at the secondarylevel (grades 6-12) Demonstrated potential for excellence in research andscholarship within the discipline, such as, but not limited to,peer-reviewed publications, academic presentations, and externalfunding applications Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching, mentorship,and promoting student success at the university level Demonstrated potential for excellence in service to thecollege, university, profession, and/or community Preferred Qualifications An earned Ph.D. at the time of hire Five (5) or more years of experience teaching history/socialstudies at the secondary (grades 6-12) level A Master's Degree, or the foreign equivalent or at least 18graduate-level hours, in History or a closely related field, whichmeets SACSCOC requirements for teaching undergraduate courses inhistory Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching at the undergraduatelevel, in different modalities and different course sizes Evidence of a sustained research agenda in history, historyeducation, or a closely related field Experience applying for or working with extramural researchfunding Demonstrated interest in or experience with digitalhistory/humanities Required Documents to Attach CV Cover Letteraddressing teaching experiences, research agenda, and approach tomentoring pre-service teachers.
