Job Title: Lay Up Technician Job Description

The Lay Up Technician uses prepared acrylic and composite materials to laminate clean, inclusion-free windows in a production clean room environment. This role follows detailed process specifications and work orders to ensure high-quality output while working on a first-shift schedule, Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM.

• Use prepared acrylic and composite materials to laminate clean, inclusion-free windows according to approved process specifications.
• Measure and cut vinyl accurately to meet close tolerance requirements.
• Prepare vinyl by vacuuming to remove dust, lint, and other particles to maintain a clean layup surface.
• Tape and apply breather cloth to the edges of windows in accordance with work instructions.
• Read, understand, and follow verbal and written work orders, process specifications, and instructions.
• Complete all required paperwork accurately per the work order and ensure it is in a transferable form for the bagging area.
• Inspect and identify all components involved in the layup process to determine if they meet quality requirements for lamination.
• Seek guidance and direction as necessary to perform duties correctly and safely.
• Keep the supervisor informed about the status of work being performed and communicate problems or potential issues as early as possible.
• Report to work on time each day, including after lunch, and remain until the end of the scheduled shift.
• Maintain the work area in a neat, clean, and orderly manner to support a clean room production environment.
• Maintain a well-groomed appearance appropriate for the position and work setting.
• Respect the confidentiality of company, customer, and personnel information at all times.
• Perform other duties and tasks as assigned, such as machining and assembly work, and assist other team members when needed.
• Assist in training fellow employees on layup, bagging, and related production tasks as required.
• Use hand tools and layup tools safely and effectively during composite and acrylic lamination processes.
• Support bagging operations associated with composite layup as needed.

• Minimum of 1 year of experience in composites layup to be considered for the role.
• Ability to stand and walk constantly for 7 to 9 hours per day.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds safely.
• Ability to frequently push 100-pound forming tables for 4 to 5 hours per day.
• Ability to frequently bend and stoop for 4 to 6 hours per day.
• Ability to occasionally kneel for up to 5 to 6 hours per day as required by tasks.
• Ability to pinch and grip various tools with fingers and hands using pushing and pulling motions for 7 to 9 hours per day.
• Ability to read and use close tolerance measuring devices accurately.
• Ability to understand and follow safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to clearly communicate with supervisors and team members in the production environment.
• Strong attention to detail to ensure clean, inclusion-free lamination and accurate documentation.
• Ability to understand and follow verbal and written work orders, process specifications, and instructions.
• Problem-solving skills to inspect components and determine whether they meet quality requirements for lamination.
• Experience working with composite materials and layup processes.
• Ability to work reliably on a structured first-shift schedule, Monday through Friday.

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
• At least 6 months of prior production or layup experience preferred.
• Experience with composite materials and layup, including hand layup techniques.
• Familiarity with bagging processes used in composite production.
• Comfort using hand tools and layup tools in a production environment.
• Ability to work effectively in a clean room environment with established cleanliness standards.
• Willingness to assist and train fellow employees as needed.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of company, customer, and personnel information.
• Strong work ethic, including punctuality and consistent attendance.
• Ability to adapt to additional tasks such as machining and assembly when assigned.

The role is based in an air-conditioned and heated plant with a clean room production environment focused on composite layup and acrylic lamination. You work on a structured first shift from Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM. The position involves extended periods of standing and walking, frequent bending, stooping, and occasional kneeling, as well as lifting up to 75 pounds and pushing 100-pound forming tables. Work is performed using hand tools, measuring devices, and layup and bagging equipment in a neat and orderly workspace. A well-groomed appearance appropriate for the production setting is expected.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Wichita, KS.

The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $22.00/hr.
