Parking Enforcement Officer

Parking Enforcement Officer Location: 4400 University Dr, Fairfax, VA 22030-4422. Position Type: Full-Time and Part-Time. Responsibilities Monitor designated streets, lots, garages, public areas, and/or an entire campus to ensure compliance with parking policies. Provide customer service by answering questions regarding directions, events, building locations, and parking policies. Issue citations and warnings for non-compliance using a computerized handheld computer or manual tickets; impound, boot, or relocate vehicles as directed. Operate independently, exercising proper judgment, tact, and diplomacy in interactions with the public. Assist maintenance staff with upkeep of parking equipment, including inspecting lots, painting, cleaning, repairing meters, installing signs, and maintaining sign posts. Assist in the collection and security of all monies received through parking meters, multi-space machines, pay-on-foot technology, and other revenue sources. Assist event staff with parking activities for events, including setup, traffic control, payment receipt, and lot usage control. Assist office staff with permit sales during peak seasons, handling data entry, mailing collations, and providing frontline customer service. Perform other related duties as assigned. Please note that Enforcement Officers are not sworn police officers and have no arresting authority. Qualifications Pay Rate: $16. Qualification Requirements: Personnel selected for parking enforcement officer positions must possess certain competencies to achieve expected performance levels, including exercising sound independent judgment and maintaining a high level of customer service. Knowledge of geographic area of enforcement. Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions. Ability to use a handheld computer. Ability to operate a motorized vehicle or bicycle. Ability to understand and apply parking regulations. Ability to interact with others in a courteous and tactful manner. Ability to walk for extended periods of time. Ability to work in all weather conditions. Must be 18 years of age or older at time of hire. Availability to Work: Special shift requirements, if any, will vary depending on a location’s hiring needs. Availability to work 2nd shift, 3rd shift, and/or weekends may be required. License Requirement: The individual will need a valid state-issued driver’s license with a current address and acceptable driving record if expected to drive a company vehicle or conduct company business. Physical Demands and Work Environment: Duties require standing, walking, using hands to handle or feel, talking, and listening. Employees are regularly exposed to outside weather conditions, including snow, storms, and extreme heat. Work may involve potentially dangerous traffic situations; safety consciousness is mandatory at all times.
