Description : 

Northrop Grumman Space Systems – Missile Defense Integration (MDI) Business Unit has an exciting career opportunity in Huntsville, Alabama for a Systems Engineer – Level 3 or 4 (Analysis / Hardware) to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals, supporting the Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD) Weapon Systems (GWS) program. This position is located in Huntsville, AL.

Position Overview : 

The selected Systems Engineer – Level 3 or 4 (Analysis / Hardware) will support the GWS Execution Team with technical analysis and an emphasis on hardware. Ideal candidates will have demonstrated understanding of the hardware development lifecycle, requirements management, and experience in conducting performance assessments for a system, executing analysis, and evaluating technical‑viability integration points. Proficiency with analysis tools and the ability to communicate concepts clearly and think critically are required.

Basic Qualifications : 

• For a Level 3 : Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM field from an accredited university and 5 years of related experience, or a Master's Degree and 3 years of related experience, or 1 year of related experience with a PhD. 

• For a Level 4 : Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM field from an accredited university and 8 years of related experience, or a Master's Degree and 6 years of related experience, or 4 years of related experience with a PhD. 

• Experience with requirements decomposition and requirements management.

• Experience with requirements management tools such as DOORS.

• Understands the hardware development lifecycle.

• Experience in engineering management in support of hardware production or manufacturing for Defense, Space, or heavy commercial industries. 

• Experience in conducting or supporting various hardware analysis products (power/grounding, structural, thermal, stress, etc.).

• Experience in general performance assessments for a system.

• Understanding of troubleshooting or assessing hardware issues (design phase and sustainment).

• Basic understanding of reliability or sustainment engineering assessments/analysis.

• Strong experience in developing or reviewing hardware (including mechanical and electrical) drawings/schematics to inform design decisions.

• Experience utilizing software tools for conducting analysis (MATLAB, SPICE, CAD, etc...). 

• Applicants must possess good communication skills. 

• Applicants must demonstrate ability to think critically and capture concepts in work products, presentations, and discussions. 

• Capable of working both independently and within a team environment. 

• Applicants must have a current active in-scope U.S. Government DoD issued Secret security clearance at the time of application which is required to start. 

• Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% of the time to support business needs.

• Must be able to support an in-person / closed-area work environment full-time.

Preferred Qualifications : 

• Degree in Systems Engineering.

• Minimum 2 years of experience within hardware engineering/analysis. 

• Experience with risk analysis and risk management. 

• Experience in Agile/Scrum leadership roles such as Scrum Master or Product Owner.

• Demonstrated independent planning, organization, and working in cross-functional teams with a customer focus.

• GMD domain knowledge.

Primary Level Salary Range: $108,800.00 - $163,200.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $135,800.00 - $203,600.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
