Position Overview

A prominent, approximately 700-room, full-service hotel in the Pittsburgh market is seeking an accomplished and highly visible General Manager to lead all aspects of hotel operations.

This is a confidential search for a hands-on hospitality executive who can strengthen operational discipline, elevate the guest experience, develop a high-performing leadership team and improve financial results. The successful candidate will bring significant experience leading a large, complex full-service hotel with extensive rooms, food and beverage, convention, banquet and group-business operations.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership and Culture

• Provide strategic and operational leadership for all hotel departments.
• Establish clear performance expectations and accountability across the executive committee and department leadership teams.
• Build a collaborative, service-focused culture that supports associate engagement, retention and professional development.
• Maintain a visible presence throughout the hotel and actively engage with guests, associates, customers and community partners.
• Coach, develop and hold leaders accountable for measurable results.
• Support effective workforce planning, succession planning and leadership development.

Hotel Operations

• Oversee all rooms, front office, housekeeping, engineering, security, food and beverage, banquet, convention and administrative operations.
• Ensure consistent execution of brand standards, service expectations and operating procedures.
• Maintain exceptional standards for cleanliness, safety, maintenance and overall property condition.
• Establish effective daily operating rhythms, including leadership meetings, departmental reviews and follow-up processes.
• Identify operational gaps and implement sustainable corrective-action plans.
• Lead the hotel effectively during high-occupancy periods, major events, citywide conventions and significant group arrivals.

Financial Performance

• Assume full responsibility for hotel revenue, profitability, cash flow and overall financial performance.
• Develop and execute annual operating and capital budgets.
• Monitor labor, productivity, departmental expenses and cost controls without compromising service quality.
• Review forecasts, financial statements and operational reports to identify risks and opportunities.
• Partner with revenue management and commercial leadership to maximize occupancy, ADR, RevPAR and total hotel revenue.
• Ensure department leaders understand their financial responsibilities and are accountable for budget performance.

Sales and Commercial Strategy

• Partner with sales, revenue management and marketing leaders to strengthen group, convention, corporate, transient and local-market business.
• Maintain strong relationships with key customers, meeting planners, ownership representatives and community stakeholders.
• Evaluate market conditions, competitive performance and demand trends to support effective commercial decisions.
• Drive strategies that improve food and beverage, banquet and ancillary revenue.
• Represent the hotel professionally within the Pittsburgh business, tourism and hospitality communities.

Guest Experience and Brand Compliance

• Champion a culture of genuine hospitality and responsive service recovery.
• Monitor guest feedback, service scores and online reputation indicators.
• Require timely investigation and resolution of recurring guest concerns.
• Ensure compliance with applicable brand standards, quality-assurance requirements and improvement plans.
• Prepare the hotel for inspections, audits and brand reviews.

Talent and Employee Relations

• Partner with Human Resources to recruit, onboard, develop and retain qualified talent.
• Ensure consistent execution of performance management, attendance, training and corrective-action processes.
• Maintain a respectful, equitable and professional workplace.
• Promote strong communication between hotel leadership and associates.
• Ensure compliance with applicable employment laws, company policies and collective bargaining obligations, where applicable.

Safety, Risk and Asset Protection

• Maintain rigorous standards for workplace safety, emergency preparedness, security and incident reporting.
• Ensure compliance with fire, life-safety, health, sanitation and accessibility requirements.
• Partner with engineering and ownership on preventive maintenance and capital planning.
• Protect the hotel’s physical assets, reputation and financial interests.
• Ensure prompt investigation, documentation and follow-up regarding accidents, claims and material operational incidents.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 10 years of progressive hotel leadership experience.
• At least five years of recent General Manager, Hotel Manager or senior executive-level experience in a large, full-service hotel.
• Demonstrated success leading a complex property with significant group, convention, banquet and food and beverage operations.
• Experience managing a hotel of substantial size and operational complexity; experience with 500 or more guestrooms strongly preferred.
• Strong financial acumen with demonstrated responsibility for budgeting, forecasting, labor management and profit improvement.
• Proven ability to improve guest satisfaction, associate engagement and operational performance.
• Experience with major internationally recognized hotel brands strongly preferred.
• Experience working with ownership or asset-management representatives.
• Strong executive presence, communication skills and ability to lead through change.
• Bachelor’s degree in hospitality, business administration or a related field preferred; equivalent leadership experience will be considered.
• Ability to work on-site and maintain the schedule and availability required to lead a large, continuously operating hotel.
