Animal Technician - Level 2

Merck seeks an Animal Technician Level 2 to support pharmaceutical production at its West Point facility. The role involves managing specific pathogen-free chicken flocks, performing husbandry and breeding duties, and maintaining strict biosecurity protocols within GMP-controlled environments. Position operates on a 6:30 am to 3:30 pm schedule with flexibility for off-shifts, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Ensure health, welfare, security, and safety of SPF chicken flocks daily
• Maintain SPF status through biosecurity protocols including isolation, sanitation, and personnel flow control
• Perform husbandry duties including feeding, grooming, cleaning, and health monitoring
• Conduct breeding, artificial insemination, and manage fertile egg handling through incubation and distribution
• Operate and maintain specialized equipment such as incubators, hatchers, and rack washers

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED
• Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) certification
• No ownership or frequent contact with bird species
• Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and perform physical duties regularly
• Preferred: chicken husbandry experience or animal phlebotomy skills
• Preferred: 1-2 years cGMP pharmaceutical or laboratory experience
• Preferred: valid driver's license
