Chemical Operator (Rotating Shift)

Job Summary The incumbent is responsible for operation of chemical manufacturing equipment and processes on a shift team to produce pharmaceutical bulk active ingredients and intermediates. Responsibilities Demonstrate full competency in operating all chemical production equipment (reactors, kettles, stills, filters, centrifuges, pumps). Interpret instrument data (temperature, pressure, vacuum, flow) and make corrective adjustments as required. Maintain accurate Batch Log Record Sheets showing materials used, produced quantities, and operating information. Label containers accurately (drums, bottles). Perform simple analytical tests such as pH, foreign matter, ash test, LOD, and Kf. Use the mobile EHS monitor (Draeger Tube) and obtain samples from batches or containers; submit samples to supervisor or laboratory computerized log‑in system. Inform supervisor of deviations and complete deviation forms; assist investigations. Act immediately in emergencies, dispose of wastes correctly, maintain cleanliness and good housekeeping. Perform necessary equipment maintenance to support batch processing. Safely drive and handle forklifts and hand trucks within the plant. Assist with validation/qualification of processes and equipment and propose improvements. Aim for highest productivity while complying with safety, environmental and quality (cGMP) regulations and guidelines. Follow Standard Operating Procedures and adhere to the Siegfried Code of Conduct. Complete all other duties as assigned. Education and Experience High School Diploma or equivalent required. Ability to read, write, and perform mathematical calculations such as yield and scale‑down batch ratios. Prior bulk pharmaceutical or batch chemical experience required. Must work accurately according to written and verbal instructions, in a chemical manufacturing plant setting, obtain respiratory clearance, be clean‑shaven to wear a face respirator, and perform heavy physical work (breaking and rolling drums up to 400lbs, climbing stairs). Ability to work overtime is required. Additional Skills and Qualifications Learn and operate computer‑controlled equipment; additional computer skills are a plus. Operate in‑plant vehicles. Load kettles, tip, and lift drums weighing up to 75lbs (every shift). Unload centrifuges, scrape cake off cloth walls, scoop material up to 5lbs per scoop (every shift). Stand for long periods; work in extreme temperatures; wear appropriate flame‑retardant uniform, coveralls, or vapor‑barrier coveralls.
