Date Posted: 2026-05-12 | Country: United States of America | Location: Tucson, AZ | Position: Senior Principal Systems Engineer, Onsite | Role Type: US Citizen, U.S. Person | Security Clearance: Secret (current, active, transferable) Overview The Systems Engineering and Test Capabilities (SETC) organization is hiring a Senior Principal Systems Engineer to serve as the SM‑2 Lead Systems Engineer (LSE). The SM‑2 production program spans multiple multi‑year contracts with both foreign and domestic customers. The LSE provides technical guidance and mentorship to multi‑disciplinary engineering teams and acts as a key interface with internal and external stakeholders. Responsibilities Protect system technical integrity and deliver products that meet customer and warfighter needs. Coordinate efforts across multiple disciplines and program activities, including external customers. Communicate technical program status, accomplishments, and issues to Raytheon leadership and influence IPTs/CPTs for alignment and teamwork. Provide guidance to multi‑disciplined engineering teams to support product production. Interact with program stakeholders—customers, government agencies, industry partners, contractors, and suppliers—to influence and guide production efforts. Drive hardware obsolescence verification, manufacturing qualification, test optimization, and yield improvement projects. Assimilate and apply knowledge across varied technical fields to balance system performance. Interpret customer requirements and objectives to decompose them into actionable directions for the program team. Identify and mitigate immediate and strategic risks, balancing technical capabilities against the Missile Performance Specification and Weapon Specification requirements. Support incremental break‑in of upgrades and system improvements. Drive positive change within the production environment, participating in Failure Review Boards, FRACAS activities, and continuous improvement efforts. Lead the Engineering Review Board (ERB) / Configuration Control Board (CCB) activities as core team lead. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM preferred). Minimum 10 years of engineering experience, including full systems engineering lifecycle leadership. Experience leading cross‑functional teams. Preferred Qualifications Advanced degree in Engineering, Science, Mathematics, or related discipline. Experience producing and testing guidance electronics systems or electronics subsystem products in the defense industry. Raytheon Level 4 (or higher) Certified Lead Systems Engineer. 12+ years of relevant work experience, including technical leadership across development and production lifecycles. Knowledge of RF electronics system performance. Experience with Naval Power missile system architectures and products. Excellent communication, technical writing, oral presentation, and interpersonal skills. Experience across product lifecycle—concept development, architecture, design, integration, verification, production. Experienced with test/support equipment. Ability to develop effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure satisfaction. Experience with Engineering Risk and Opportunity (R&O) and FRACAS management.
