The Phlebotomist II supports a busy laboratory environment by performing high-quality specimen collection, handling, and processing while contributing to smooth workflow operations. This role combines direct patient interaction with technical laboratory tasks, including blood draws, specimen labeling and preparation, data entry, and compliance with safety and regulatory standards. The position requires strong attention to detail, excellent customer service, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced setting.

• Perform venipunctures and other specimen collections, including blood draws and, as required, urine or fecal specimens, using straight needles and butterfly needles with proper technique.
• Clearly and courteously explain venipuncture and other specimen collection procedures to patients to ensure understanding and comfort.
• Collect and store specimens according to established procedures to maintain specimen integrity.
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes to ensure accurate patient and test identification.
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by specific test orders.
• Check all test requisitions or computer-generated labels against scripts or orders to ensure 100% accuracy.
• Package specimens for transport according to established protocols to preserve specimen quality.
• Store specimen samples at the required temperatures and place them in appropriate collection containers or tubes, following specific procedures and protocols.
• Fully understand and interpret physicians’ orders to ensure correct tests and processing steps are followed.
• Record maintenance data and perform decontamination tasks in accordance with laboratory procedures.
• Update patient information accurately in the system to support proper documentation and reporting.
• Troubleshoot issues related to specimen collection, labeling, and workflow, and make recommendations to improve efficiency.
• Participate in training activities and support colleagues by sharing knowledge of procedures and best practices.
• Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and all applicable safety and regulatory requirements.
• Attend annual department trainings to maintain current knowledge of procedures, regulations, and best practices.
• Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries in a professional and accurate manner.
• Provide courteous and responsive customer service to patients, clinical staff, and other stakeholders.
• Adhere to non-float assignment, working consistently at the designated location.

• Valid phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, as required in some states.
• Minimum of 6 months of work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting.
• Proficiency in performing blood draws using both straight needles and butterfly needles.
• Ability to accurately collect, label, centrifuge, split, freeze, and store specimens according to established procedures and test requirements.
• Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate matching of laboratory requisition forms with specimen tubes and verification of test requisitions or computer labels against orders.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite for data entry, documentation, and communication.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Approximately 2–4 years of overall experience in phlebotomy or related specimen collection roles.
• Knowledge of and ability to comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and laboratory safety protocols.
• Effective verbal communication skills to clearly explain procedures and respond to inquiries.
• Demonstrated customer service skills in a healthcare or laboratory environment.

• Experience working in a fast-paced lab or hospital environment with multiple simultaneous tasks.
• Ability to troubleshoot specimen collection or workflow issues and make practical recommendations to improve processes.
• Comfort with reading and relaying laboratory results over the phone in a clear and accurate manner.
• Experience updating patient information and maintaining accurate records in electronic systems.
• Strong organizational skills to manage multiple specimens, requisitions, and tasks throughout the day.
• Ability to participate in and benefit from ongoing training, including annual department trainings.
• Customer service orientation, with a focus on patient comfort and professional interaction with clinical staff.

This is a non-float position based at a fixed laboratory location in New York. The schedule typically runs Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with every other Saturday shift from 7:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The environment is a fast-paced clinical laboratory or hospital setting that involves frequent patient contact, regular use of phlebotomy equipment, centrifuges, and computer systems, including Microsoft Office Suite. Staff adhere to established safety procedures and regulatory requirements, including OSHA and DEP guidelines. The role requires consistent attention to cleanliness, proper specimen handling, and adherence to laboratory protocols to maintain a safe and efficient workspace.

This is a Contract position based out of Clifton Park, NY.

The pay range for this position is $21.80 - $21.81/hr.

This is a fully onsite position in Clifton Park,NY.
