Classification Title: Medical Lab Technician II FLSA: Non-Exempt FTE: 1.00 Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent and 2 years of related experience Position Summary: This position will be based in the Necropsy Laboratory of the Athens Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory. The main responsibilities will include assisting pathologists in conducting necropsy examinations on a variety of animal species, maintaining the Necropsy Laboratory, and processing (trimming) formalin-fixed animal tissues for histologic examinations. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies: Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills. Computer skills (including working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel) and experience with digital photography. Ability to accurately enter numerical data into the laboratory information system. Physical Demands: Lift up to 50 pounds. Duties/Responsibilities: Receive and login animal carcasses submitted for necropsy.Assist pathologists, residents, and veterinary students during necropsy, process anddispose of animal tissues and remains.Prepare reagents and order laboratory supplies.Clean and maintain the necropsy facilities.Write necropsy standard operating procedures as needed. Percentage of time: 60 Duties/Responsibilities: Dispose of waste formalin as needed.Track chemicals in our tracking system as needed. Percentage of time: 30 Duties/Responsibilities: Daily data entry of temperature logs and other weekly logs.Perform weekend/holiday necropsy duties as assigned.Other duties as assigned by Supervisor or Section head.
