This role focuses on fabricating and assembling large-scale custom conveyor systems for bottling, food, paper, and other industrial applications. The fabricator performs MIG welding and custom fabrication on machinery, working primarily with mild steel and some aluminum. The position involves reading blueprints, gathering materials, and building complex mechanical assemblies that integrate rollers and other moving components.

Responsibilities

• Fabricate and assemble large-scale custom conveyor systems and related machinery.
• Perform MIG welding on mild steel and aluminum components, including 3G (1/2 inch) plate steel and 11G (1/8 inch) steel.
• Carry out custom fabrication tasks such as layout, fit-up, and mounting various pieces for assembly.
• Adjust machinery to scale and ensure all fabricated components fit and function with rollers and other moving parts.
• Drill and tap holes, mount brackets, install photo eyes, and complete mechanical assembly of conveyor equipment.
• Read and interpret blueprints accurately and gather required materials independently.
• Use measuring tools such as tape measures to verify dimensions and tolerances during fabrication and assembly.
• Perform fit-ups by connecting large pieces and ensuring proper alignment with other moving components.
• Conduct flux core welding and other welding processes as required for machine building.
• Lift materials and components up to 50 pounds as part of daily fabrication and assembly work.
• Maintain a clean and organized shop area, including general shop clean-up and adherence to safety practices.

Essential Skills

• Proven experience performing MIG welding on mild steel and aluminum, including 3G welding on plate steel.
• Demonstrated ability to perform fit-ups, connecting large fabricated pieces that integrate with rollers and other moving equipment components.
• Strong blueprint reading skills, including the ability to interpret fabrication and assembly drawings and work independently from them.
• Capability to weld in flat, horizontal, and vertical up positions with consistent quality.
• Hands-on experience with mechanical assembly and machine building for industrial equipment or conveyor systems.
• Proficiency in using hand and power tools for drilling, tapping holes, mounting brackets, and assembling machinery.
• Ability to use measuring tools, such as tape measures, to verify dimensions and ensure accurate fabrication.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform fabrication and assembly tasks throughout the workday.
• Ownership of appropriate personal tools required for fabrication and mechanical assembly work.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working with aluminum welding, aluminum fabrication, and aluminum structures.
• Welding processes beyond MIG, such as flux core welding, for industrial fabrication.
• Prior experience in a unionized industrial or manufacturing environment.
• Familiarity with conveyor systems used in bottling, food, and paper industries.
• Experience in general shop maintenance and adherence to safety and cleanliness standards.

Work Environment

The role is based in a unionized fabrication shop that designs and builds custom conveyor lines and systems for bottling, food, paper, and other industrial sectors. It is a direct-hire position with a daytime schedule typically from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with the option to start as early as 5:00 a.m. and stay as late as 4:30 p.m. The environment involves working with industrial fabrication equipment, welding machines, and mechanical assembly tools in a busy shop setting. Attendance and reliability are highly valued, with a clear attendance policy that allows five days off within a rolling twelve-month period, with termination on the sixth call-off. Team members work with steel and aluminum materials, machine building tools, and measurement instruments in a hands-on, production-focused environment.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $27.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
