The Role:
The Director of Behavioral Health leads the Behavioral Health team at One Family Illinois, ensuring high-quality therapeutic care and adherence to all contractual, regulatory, and organizational standards. This role supervises Clinical Therapists, oversees therapy and wellness programs, and supports initiatives across multiple sites and communities, with the goal of promoting well-being for children, individuals, families, and communities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Clinical and Program Leadership
- Supervise and guide Clinical Therapists in the delivery of individual, group, and family therapy services.
- Oversee behavioral health programs, ensuring compliance with DCFS, Cook County, COA, and Medicaid standards.
- Review and approve clinical documentation, ensuring accuracy, quality, and timely completion.
Staff Development and Supervision
- Lead recruitment, onboarding, training, and development of clinical and support staff, including interns.
- Provide supervision to unlicensed staff to ensure all clinical practices align with professional standards.
- Conduct regular staff consultations and manage a 24/7 on-call Behavioral Health team.
Team Leadership and Staff Development
- Create opportunities for training and development for the behavioral health team to ensure service excellence and professional growth.
- Collaborate with Program Directors to build interdisciplinary teams that drive innovative, client-centered solutions.
- Foster an environment of respect that values team member contributions, encourages collaboration, promotes personal growth and supports employee retention.
Program Management and Compliance
- Develop and implement policies to uphold high standards of care and ethical practices.
- Ensure timely, accurate documentation, and manage Medicaid and other billing processes.
- Maintain compliance with state, federal, and accreditation requirements.
- Assure alignment of programs with grant and other contractual commitments.
Community and Stakeholder Engagement
- Represent One Family Illinois in interactions with community organizations, regulatory bodies, and funding agencies.
- Establish partnerships with external providers to expand client services.
- Collaborate with leadership, case managers, and foster parents to align services and support holistic behavioral health care.
Strategic and Fiscal Oversight
- Develop and manage the Behavioral Health budget to ensure cost-effective operations.
- Track program metrics, assess outcomes, and implement improvements to meet program goals.
- Develop dashboards to periodically report on progress toward meeting strategic goals.
- Support organizational advocacy efforts and assist with fundraising initiatives as needed.
Program Development and Innovation
- Drive the expansion of behavioral health services, programs, and resources to address evolving needs within the community.
Additional Duties
- Prepare and submit required reports; maintain confidentiality and accurate documentation.
- Engage in professional development to stay current with best practices and regulatory changes.
- Promote a positive agency reputation by adhering to ethical standards and advocating for services.
Education: Master’s Degree in Social Work or a related field; LCSW or LCPC required.
Experience: Minimum 3 years of clinical practice with supervisory experience preferred.
Skills:
- Knowledge of DCFS standards, Medicaid billing, and behavioral health best practices.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in MS Office and relevant documentation software.
Other Requirements:
- Certified or willing to certify in IM-CANS within 90 days.
- Excellent presentation, communication, and facilitation skills
- Strong organizational and project management abilities
- Proficiency in developing training materials using various instructional techniques and tools
- Ability to engage and motivate participants, including diverse learning needs and styles
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite and familiarity with data management/reporting software.
- Ability to work with DCFS, courts, and other social service systems
- Ability to pass DCFS required criminal background check including CANTS/SACWIS and SORS and to provide required DCFS Medical Report/TB test.
- Valid Illinois driver's license with acceptable driving record; insured and reliable transportation.
- Sensitivity to the cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of clients and staff.
- Ability to relate to the Agency staff and to the public in a courteous and professional manner.
- Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment and to handle sensitive and confidential materials.
- Ability to work flexible hours and be reliable, punctual, and able to manage multiple tasks.
- Ability to work in an alcohol, tobacco, drug, and firearm-free environment.
