Staff Development Coordinator / Infection Preventionist (SDC/IP)

Woburn Rehabilitation and Nursing Center is seeking a dedicated and organized Staff Development Coordinator / Infection Preventionist (SDC/IP) to oversee staff education, orientation, competency development, and infection prevention and control initiatives throughout the facility.

This position requires an active Massachusetts RN or LPN nursing license. The ideal candidate will have strong clinical knowledge, excellent organizational skills, and a passion for staff development, resident safety, quality improvement, and regulatory compliance.

In this dual-role position, you will work closely with facility leadership and department managers to ensure employees receive the education, training, and competency support needed to provide safe, high-quality, resident-centered care while maintaining compliance with applicable state and federal regulations.

• Participate in the annual facility assessment to identify the knowledge and skills needed to meet resident needs.

• Conduct educational needs assessments and identify staff training priorities.

• Collaborate with the Administrator, Director of Nursing, Compliance Officer, and department leaders to develop and maintain an annual training plan.

• Develop and maintain educational calendars based on facility, staff, and regulatory requirements.

• Plan, schedule, conduct, and oversee orientation programs for new employees.

• Develop, coordinate, and provide ongoing education, refresher training, and competency programs.

• Track employee attendance and completion of required training.

• Develop and maintain training materials that reflect current standards of practice, regulations, and facility policies.

• Collaborate with department managers to establish and evaluate required staff competencies.

• Assist with employee competency evaluations based on knowledge, technical skills, and behavioral requirements.

• Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of educational programs.

• Maintain accurate training records, attendance records, educational materials, speaker qualifications, and employee education files.

• Provide opportunities for staff to obtain continuing education credits when applicable.

• Assist with developing and managing the education budget and communicate resource needs to facility leadership.

• Assist with Nurse Aide Training Curriculum development and required state submissions, when applicable.

• Serve as a key resource for the facility's infection prevention and control program.

• Develop, implement, monitor, and maintain infection prevention policies and procedures.

• Monitor compliance with infection prevention practices, including hand hygiene, personal protective equipment, isolation precautions, environmental practices, and standard precautions.

• Conduct infection surveillance and maintain accurate documentation of infections and communicable diseases.

• Identify infection trends and communicate concerns and recommendations to facility leadership and appropriate clinical personnel.

• Assist with outbreak prevention, investigation, response, and documentation in accordance with facility policy and applicable regulations.

• Coordinate infection prevention education during new-hire orientation and ongoing staff training.

• Provide education related to infection prevention, transmission-based precautions, hand hygiene, personal protective equipment, and other infection control practices.

• Participate in quality improvement initiatives related to infection prevention and resident safety.

• Collaborate with nursing, environmental services, dietary, rehabilitation, and other departments to promote facility-wide infection prevention practices.

• Assist with regulatory and accreditation readiness related to infection prevention and control.

• Maintain required infection prevention documentation, reports, surveillance records, and educational materials.

• Stay current with applicable infection prevention standards, regulations, guidance, and best practices.

• Treat all residents with dignity and respect while promoting and protecting their rights.

• Maintain compliance with facility policies, procedures, and applicable state and federal regulations.

• Maintain confidentiality of protected health information in verbal, written, and electronic communications.

• Follow infection control, safety, and hygiene policies and procedures.

• Report suspected abuse, neglect, exploitation, misappropriation of property, or mistreatment of residents immediately according to facility policy.

• Report noncompliance, confidentiality breaches, retaliation, and discrimination to appropriate personnel.

• Participate in emergency preparedness, life-safety drills, and required emergency training.

• Report work-related injuries, illnesses, and occupational exposures according to facility policy.

• Complete all required training and competency evaluations.

• Remain current on professional standards, regulations, laws, and best practices through continuing education and professional development.

• Active Massachusetts RN or LPN nursing license required.

• Minimum of 5 years of nursing experience required.

• Staff Development Coordinator experience preferred.

• Infection Prevention and Control experience preferred.

• Experience in a skilled nursing or long-term care environment strongly preferred.

• Knowledge of infection prevention and control practices and healthcare regulations.

• Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.

• Ability to coordinate multiple training programs, schedules, and compliance requirements.

• Strong attention to detail and record-keeping skills.

• Ability to work collaboratively with facility leadership, department managers, and employees.
