Job Summary: The California Governor's Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) is seeking an Assistant Telecommunications Engineer to support public safety communications systems engineering and design. The role involves providing direction to maintenance technical staff, assisting in project management, and ensuring engineering services meet operational requirements for public safety communications. Responsibilities:
- Provides direction to maintenance technical staff for the installation and maintenance of new systems, and solutions to problems with existing systems.
- Assists engineering lead persons in large system implementations.
- Develops technical reports and equipment selection criteria.
- Provides project cost estimates for parts and labor.
- Notifies the supervisor of risks to the project’s budget, schedule, and scope.
- Ensures engineering services for public safety communications meet the critical operational requirements of the state.
- Education and work experience in the field of radio frequency (RF) propagation, land mobile radio system design, electrical circuits, data communications networks, use of related test equipment, and communications facility/tower planning.
- Knowledge of Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulations relating to frequency planning and radio frequency (RF) public safety spectrum allocation.
- Knowledge of the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services’ (Cal OES) policies and procedures.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to facilitate interaction and coordination with other technical staff across multiple disciplines to solve complex technical problems.
