Front Desk Assistant – Part‑time (2 positions, maximum of 24 hours per week) The Front Desk Assistants (DAs) are employees of the Office of Residential Education and Housing. Supervised by a professional staff member, DAs are expected to work towards Residential Education and Housing objectives, manage the front desk, and provide administrative support. Overall job effectiveness is tied to the DA’s ability to complete administrative tasks and provide overall support to residential students. Position Duties – Community Development Facilitate and support the Community Development Plan as directed by your supervisor, including creating/maintaining bulletin boards and assisting with programming. Identify and respond to resident needs through consultation and referral of campus resources. Frame communication with respect to diversity of learning styles, varied individual communication abilities, and cultural differences. Administration & University‑Wide Support Support administrative processes and communication related to Residential Education and Housing. Manage the Residence Hall Front Desk by providing lockout assistance, answering the phone(s), and referring students to appropriate resources. Complete administrative tasks using the appropriate technology and requesting clarification from colleagues or supervisors. Demonstrate dependability and timeliness by completing all Incident Reports and Duty Logs consistently and with minimal errors. Communicate in a clear and organized manner and regularly check work communication channels to stay organized (email, staff mailbox, team communication). Prioritize tasks and submit all required materials in a consistent and timely manner (digital or physical advertising, restocking/inventory, passive programming, etc.). Maintain positive and equitable customer service for all residents, guests, and other individuals served by the housing department. Ensure hand‑off of the duty phone to the scheduled RA‑on‑duty during evening shifts. Student Behavior & Crisis Management Identify and report potential policy violations, incidents, or student concerns to supervisor. Multi‑task in emergency situations or crisis response by identifying next steps, contacting professional staff members, delegating tasks to residents and other staff, and communicating effectively. Understand, abide by, and role‑model behavior expected of students as outlined in the OSU Student Conduct & Community Standards and all Residential Education and Housing Policies. Meeting and Training Requirements DAs must complete all required training sessions prior to and during service, including online modules. DAs may be asked to stay as late as noon on Sunday after Spring Term finals to assist with closing responsibilities. Exceptions to the above responsibilities of the position may be approved at the discretion of the Associate Director of Residential Education and Housing. Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment. Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard. High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home‑schooling program. Undergraduate and post‑baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term. Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*. Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term. Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*. *International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full‑time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS) and must be provided to the Student Employment Center. Required Qualifications Be a current OSU‑Cascades student or degree partnership student with OSU‑Cascades and COCC with a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.50 or higher. Maintain good academic and conduct standing with both OSU‑Cascades and Residential Education and Housing. Demonstrate the ability to cultivate relationships with people. Demonstrate the ability to respond to conflict. Demonstrate an understanding or open‑mindedness to social justice. Demonstrate the ability to complete administrative tasks in a timely manner. Working Conditions / Schedule The general schedule for DA shifts is Monday – Friday from 1pm – 8pm and Sunday 3pm – 8pm, although hours may vary. The DA is an “At Will” employee. As such, the employee, or Residential Education and Housing may terminate the position at any time.
