Position Summary

Acorn is seeking an Electrical Engineer to become a part of our quoting team. In this role, you will review customer requests for quote (RFQ’s), analyze PCB and PCBA specifications and manufacturing requirements, and generate accurate, competitive, and timely price quotes.  This role works closely with engineering, production, and sales to ensure quotes reflect true manufacturing capability and cost, while delivering a smooth experience for customers from initial inquiry through order placement.

Key Responsibilities

• Review customer RFQs, including PCB Gerber files, drawings and bill of materials (BOM) to determine manufacturability and quoting requirements
• Develop and calculate accurate pricing based on board specifications (layer count, materials, finishes, tolerance, quantities, lead times) and current shop costs
• Analyze BOMs and work with purchasing to source components and verify pricing, availability, and lead times        
• Estimate labor, machine time, tooling, programming, and test requirements
• Maintain and improve quoting tools, cost models, and standard times in the ERP/quoting system        
• Communicate with customers to clarify requirements, suggest alternatives, and resolve technical questions        
• Collaborate with Sales, Production, Quality, and Supply Chain to ensure quotes are realistic and achievable        
• Monitor outstanding quotes and follow up to support conversion to orders as needed

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field
• Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to quickly resolve discrepancies between customer specifications and manufacturing capabilities
• Ability to read and interpret schematics, BOMs, Gerber data, and assembly drawings
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for interacting with customers and internal teams
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and quoting/ERP softwartware
• Ability to manage multiple quotes simultaneously in a fast-paced environment where priorities can shift quickly
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, and comfort working with cost models and spreadsheets
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple quotes and deadlines in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in electronics manufacturing, EMS, or PCB fabrication/assembly environments
• Prior experience in quoting, estimating, or applications engineering
• Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems and component sourcing tools
• Experience with CAD/CAM or DFM tools (e.g., CAM350, Valor, Altium, or similar)
• Working knowledge of PCB design and manufacturing processes, and familiarity with IPC standards (e.g., IPC-A-610, IPC-6012)
• Self-starter who is comfortable wearing multiple hats and contributing beyond a job description
• Knowledge of SMT, wave and selective soldering, AOI, ICT, and functional test processes
