Lead Area Health Information Specialist

This position is responsible for processing all release of information (ROI), specifically medical record requests, in a timely and efficient manner, ensuring accuracy and providing customers with the highest quality product and customer service. Associates must safeguard the patient’s right to privacy by ensuring that only authorized individuals have access to the patient’s medical information and that all releases of information comply with the request, authorization, company policy, and HIPAA regulations. This position travels 75% or more of the time and is an intermediate level position with at least 1 year of related HIM experience. Position Highlights Hybrid—mostly onsite—traveling to 4 clinics in the Ft. Myers area. Full‑time, Monday‑Friday 8:30‑5:00 pm. Front desk processing medical records requests—customer service. What We’re Looking For Strong customer service and clerical skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel. Comfortable working in a high‑volume production environment. Medical office experience preferred. Willingness to learn and grow within Datavant. You will Receive and process requests for patient health information in accordance with company and facility policies and procedures. Maintain confidentiality and security of all privileged information. Maintain working knowledge of company and facility software. Adhere to the company's and customer's code of conduct and policies. Inform manager of work, site difficulties, and fluctuating volumes. Assist with additional duties as required. Apply medical privacy regulations to guard against unauthorized disclosure. Manage patient health records and safeguard them to comply with HIPAA standards. Prepare new patient charts, gathering documents from paper sources or electronic health records. Ensure records are assembled accurately and completely. Create digital images of paperwork for storage in the electronic medical record. Respond to requests both in‑facility and from external sources, retrieving and transmitting them appropriately. Answer inbound and outbound calls. Assist with patient walk‑ins. Assist with administrative duties such as handling faxes, opening mail, and data entry. Schedule pick‑ups. Assist with training associates in the HIS positions. Generate reports for manager or facility as directed. Meet or exceed level 1 productivity expectations as outlined at the specific site. Participate in project teams and committees to advance operational strategies and initiatives. Mentor HIS staff for professional development. Inform senior leadership of issues, opportunities or challenges. Assist throughout the region with training, mentoring, and coverage as needed. Participate and assist with onboarding activities for new employees. Assist with quality assurance tasks as directed by management. Act in a lead role with staff regarding general questions and new‑hire training. Lead training sessions for timely staff development. Perform other duties as assigned. What you will bring to the table High school diploma or GED. 18 years of age or older. Ability to travel locally/regional 75% or more of the time. Ability to commute between locations as needed. 1 year of Health Information-related experience. Ability to work overtime during peak seasons when required. Basic computer proficiency. Comfortable utilizing phones, fax machine, printers, and other general office equipment. Professional verbal and written communication skills in English. Detail and quality oriented with accurate and compliant medical records. Strong data entry skills. Ability to work with minimal supervision, responding to changing priorities. Ability to organize and manage multiple tasks. Ability to respond rapidly in a fast‑paced environment. Presentation skills for small group settings. Forward thinking and problem‑solving ability. Bonus points if 2+ years of Health Information-related experience. Meeting and/or exceeding company productivity standards. Previous production/metric‑based work experience. In‑person customer service experience. Ability to build relationships with on‑site clients and customers. Comfortable presenting new ideas, process‑improvement suggestions, and feedback to stakeholders.
