Staff Accountant

Staff AccountantThe Staff Accountant is responsible for performing daily accounting activities, processing general ledger journal entries, and preparing balance sheet and income statement accounts.What you'll be doingPerforms daily review of revenue reconciliation between Opera (PMS) trial balance and the amounts in the financial systems software, and approves respective revenue journal entry in GLPrepares and posts journal entries throughout the month as well as during month-end close, including accruals and adjustmentsPrepares balance sheet reconciliation workpapers for reviewAssists with the development of quarter-end, month-end, and year-end financial statementsAssists with financial audits and preparing appropriate audit work papersMaintains records of organization's financial activity in accordance with GAAP and organizational standardsPerforms special projects as neededKey Competencies RequiredTechnical: Strong understanding of general ledger accountingDemonstrate knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) with ability to research and recommend appropriate actionsDemonstrated experience interpreting and producing financial status reportsUnderstanding of USALI standards would be a plusBehavioral (Go Beyond) Exceed expectationsHold yourself and others accountableContinuously improveDig deeper and find ways to succeedA candidate for this position must possess the following applicable knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to demonstrate and provide applicable examples to support his/her competency.2+ years' experience in general accounting and financial record keeping (hospitality industry preferred)Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting or equivalent preferredAdvanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and ability to effectively organize, manipulate, and analyze large amounts of dataOpera Property Management System Experience a plusAbility to proactively communicate and work effectively with hotel accounting staff, outside vendors, and internal customersExcellent problem-solving skills and ability to think outside the box and challenge the status quoMust be PC proficient and able to thrive in a fast pace settingDemonstrate ability to use technology to improve processes and efficienciesStrong attention to detail and commitment to high quality workStrong analytical skills and ability to accurately process numerical dataAbility to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines requiredExcellent written communication skillsExcellent organization skills and must thrive in a teamwork settingPassionate and enthusiasticAnticipated Pay Range & Additional Job Information$26.00 per hourHow we reward youAt Sonesta, we know showing up for our guests starts with showing up for our people.
