Manager, Indirect Tax

Today SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal ofenabling human life on Mars.MANAGER, INDIRECT TAXWe are seeking an experienced Manager, Indirect Tax to assist in all areas of US and Canada indirect tax including monthly compliance, controversy/audit matters, tax research, planning and strategy.RESPONSIBILITIES: Gather, manipulate and review data and coordinate with external service providers to prepare sales and use tax returns, across all U.S. states and CanadaAssist with indirect tax audits, refund claims and coordinate responses to various tax authoritiesResolve tax notices and similar mattersPerform tax technical research related to sales and use tax and other indirect tax mattersCreate and establish processes for audit defenseAssist in validating tax engine configurations and calculation resultsWork with suppliers and internal purchasing teams on sales & use tax matters, including claiming various exemptions or incentives, and looking for savings opportunitiesDocument indirect tax issues, positions and resolutionsPrepare and maintain tax calendar for indirect tax licenses, filings, as well as assist in various administrative mattersAssist with general ledger account reconciliationValidates and manages sales tax exemption certificatesImplement process improvements and automationBASIC QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor’s degree in accounting, tax, real estate, finance or other business disciplines7+ years of work experience as an indirect tax professional in public accounting or at a large multinational companyExperience with MS Excel and tax research tools (RIA Checkpoint)PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:Experience with sales and use tax compliance and consultingExperience working across multiple statesExperience working with indirect tax software (Vertex/AvaTax)Familiarity with indirect taxes and their application across multiple industriesADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:This position is based in Hawthorne, CA (Los Angeles area), and requires being onsite full-time – hybrid and remote work will not be consideredWilling to work extended hours as necessaryCOMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:Pay Range:$140,000.00 - $190,000.00Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX. You may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of company stock or long-term cash awards, as well as potential discretionary bonuses and the ability to purchase additional stock at a discount through an Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
